Meeting AHPRA requirements as a International Trained Nurse from the Philippines

Published

a migration agent told me that AHPRA will soon give eligibility only for university conversion program. hope it's not true. the wait has been frustrating, and this would be a real disappointment if they do decide to do this.

What do u mean by university conversion?

Hey nurses!:) It has been really a long wait. Got my second extension letter and it will end by October 23. For the people who has been asking about the bridging to be changed to conversion prog, I think it wouldn't be possible. The thing that they would like to implement is that only universities will be the one to offer the Bridging Program. I got this information from an Australian head of nursing and midwifery department in a prestigious Univ who just gave a briefing last week. I am sorry but I think we cannot mention any names here, but this is legit info that i have learned. Guys, more patience we'll soon get our LOEs. God bless everyone.:)

I am already dismayed how AHPRA handles application/assessment since this new system. I only lodged my application last May but I've been hearing stories from applicants who sent their requirements last year and still has to wait and be given extension letter and another extension letter until it lapsed. I think we paid pretty huge amount of money and they should make up to their own deficiency. If they can't handle large number of applicants then they should add more people to assess and decide.

Bridging program fees increase every year and we should anticipate higher fees next year. To add up, our IELTS has its expiration too. Not only that we will using that for AHPRA but also for BP, ANMAC and immigration purposes. It can be another burden.

I'm tired reading posts about extension letter. There are only two forumers here were given decision after the IQNM thing. One was given eligibility letter and another who didn't meet the eligibility standard.

i think its still good to hear that there were 2 applicants who got assessed and passed? post iqnm changes, sent my initial application in feb and had to send more documents this july.. so, it might still be a while.

As far as I know, the other one wasn't given the LOE. You can check the thread here in allnurses.

This is the post of paki nurse:

"Hi everyone!

I applied AHPRA as a registered nurse because I am a RN in my country, after 5 months of waiting Igot a letter of refusal today saying I did not satisfy section 53 and my studied are equivalent to AQF level lV NOT AQF level 7.

I didn't get any eligibility letter with it, which means I can't even do bridging! Will i be getting eligibility letter? I am crying and feel like my dream of becoming an Aussie nurse is over."

That is a real sad news

hi and good day. im a nurse from the philippines who lodged my ahpra application from november last year. up to now im still waiting for my loe, im supposed to start my bridging program this 11th of august but sadly i have to move it cause of the lack of my eligibility. i have been waiting for 9 months now for ahpra but still they say that the review and screening process is not finished yet. i have talked to a very reliable person who communicates with the ahpra board members and he had just delivered me a not so good news. recently, two board members are saying that the new iqnm standards issued last feb 2014 states that the b.s. nursing here in the phils is not "substantially equivalent" to that of australian nursing degree. it implicates that the philippines is no longer allowed to do the iron program but instead be required to go to the aussie universities to be qualified. please note that this is not yet their final decision yet so we have to wait for the ahpra board meeting this late august. as far as i know, ahpra is not processing any asian applications as of the moment.

we just hope and pray that the board will give us a fair and equal decision. do not lose hope my fellow nurses.
