Meeting AHPRA requirements as a International Trained Nurse from the Philippines

World Registration

Published

Have you guys actually looked at the APHRA website and the form you need to complete, the site tells you what you need to know.

AHPRA wants to know if your school has regular credentialling and if it was current when you were attending the school, which is going to be a problem for many applicants. This can only come directly to APHRA from the credentialling agency.

regarding criterion 3, what independent accreditation authority is responsible for that? is it CHED? PRC? BON? PAASCU?

Do the nursing courses get regularly reveiwed and accredited by a nursing authority? In Australia it is every 4 years. If not, could be a problem, is yes, must have been currentlly accredited when you did the course. They accrediting authority must send this information directly to AHPRA.

many thanks for this ceridwyn... this is actually very helpful and wasnt aware of this guidelines until you mentioned it.

i have sent an email to my registrar, i thought if anyone wants to use the same template to their schools. feel free to do so.

Dear Ms Galila,

Futher to my previous email,

The AHPRA (Australia) have set new guidelines in determining eligibility for registration. This has led to new requirements/certifications from International Nursing Schools where internationally qualified nurses such as myself, who want to register in Australia, have to provide evidence of.

In Summary, I would like to request for a

A. TOR with course description

the course transcript should clearly identify that I have completed at least 800 hours of clinical or workplace experience units in a range of health care settings as part of the course (exclusive of simulation activities).

B. Certification from your education institution (RTRMS -MMC), provided directly to AHPRA, that you successfully completed your course of study which covered medication management including drug calculation, pharmacokinetics (the study of the bodily absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs and pharmacodynamics (the study of the biochemical and physiological effects of drugs and the mechanisms of their action in the body).

C. The university or education institution must provide evidence directly to AHPRA that it is subject to an accreditation process (CHED, PRC ) that ensures that the standards and quality of the education it provides to students is monitored, assessed, and evaluated.

This evidence must cover the period of time when you studied the course.

This is a pretty recent change, and I would greatly appreciate any form of letter/certification the school can provide giving information on these matters.

subject A - should be straightforward with the number of hours in RLE during the course

subject B, I would think there should be information regarding this on the school's BSN course description, detailed in pharmacology studies.

subject C, I would think this would be any evidence/copy of records the school has on any registration/accreditation it has recieved during my time of study 2003/2007 as a provider of BSN courses.

My sister should liase with your office and pay for the fees.

I am truly grateful for your assistance.

Many thanks,

Mac de Guzman

Ched/PRC have to directly notify AHPRA that your school is regularly audited and your course was accredited at the time of your studies.

I think it has to be both. You need the school to provide evidence directly to ahpra that they are have met certain standards from professional regulators (prc, ahpra )

and some sort of certificate from prc, CHED that your school is indeed on the registers of schools with good standing

Ceridwyn... Ur a big help to everyone here. Thanks!

This is AHPRA's criterion 3:

"The relevant nursing regulatory authority or agency should provide evidence directly to AHPRA that the program of study which led to registration was accredited by the nurse regulatory authority or agency in the country/state/jurisdiction where the program was delivered at the time you studied.Â*"

I am not really sure about this. In the Philippines, the nursing regulatory authority is the BON. Question is, how can BON provide an evidence that the program that we studied was accredited? Are they just going to make a letter r a certification?

Another question is, CHED has the authority/power/function to accredit

schools/degrees/courses here? Isn't it more proving that this evidence should come from them? However, CHED is not the nursing regulatory authority.

I did some research and found out that PACUCOA accredits institution in the PH. Iam not quite sure yet since there is no office during weekends. Can somebody in the PH contact PACUCOA to confirm this? If you visit their site you can actually download the list of accredited institutions.

Do they accredit the nursing courses regularly, not just the once when they start, that's what AHPRA needs to know are the nursing courses at the institution regularly reviewed by an outside nursing agency.

Or are they left to do whatever once they are set up and originally accredited. It's the course that needs to be accredited and on a regular basis.

PACUCOA - Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation

I think that they accredit on a regular basis, well that's based from my reading of the above link. Can someone agree or disagree with me? Sending post internationally is quite expensive and I dont want to waste money and time as much as possible. Thanks.
