Medications that make you helpless and psychotic for nursing students

Published

A few times, I have heard doctors and R.N.s talking about a drug they were given in nursing or medical school that makes them helpless and causes schizzophrenic symptoms and they are required to take this as a part of their schooling just to learn what a helpless patient goes through.

I have never learned WHAT THIS DRUG IS or why it would be safe to just give it to everyone in a whole class or even if they really do this in every nursing program.

If there really is such a thing and it's safe, then why don't more people have a chance to use it since so many of them have no empathy or insights into the lives of disoriented people?

Why should you have to be a nursing or medical student to do this? They should give it to anyone who likes to torment helpless individuals so they can learn deeper insights. They should pass it out to high school students.

Can anyone clear up my confusion.

that's nuts...of course there's no such thing and you think we should give it high school students?? You're a nursing student? scary

They are yanking your chain. Obviously I hope you would never take a medication that wasn't prescribed to you by a doctor, NP,or PA.

Ethanol can have those effects in high enough doses, and many med/nursing students are exposed to ethanol at some point in their studies.

I'm being exposed right now!

I wasn't given any drugs..... :smokin: In the classroom once we put eyeglasses on that had vaseline smeared on the lenses. We had ear plugs in. We put tape on our fingertips and played a game of cards. Or well tried to play a game of cards. It was supposed to help us understand and empathize with the visual, audio and tactile issues that some geriatric or other patients might have.

I will warn you about one thing that they DON'T tell nursing students: about the extreme danger and exposure to a toxic chemical that is found in all hospitals: dihydrogen monoxide!! This stuff is so bad they will CANCEL a surgery if the patient has had any contact with it beforehand... plus it is found in the pipes and is the leading cause of rust! But we are still expected to work with it all day long... it gets all over your skin!!!
