Medically Disqualified

Published

Hello all,

I just wanted to stop by and give an update. I received word today that I was medically disqualified for one time "bilateral kidney stone" event in 2005. It was a 2mm stone that was passed after 3 days of intense pain. Since then no problems/recurrences. 3 months ago I had my physician give me the "astronaut physical", LOL, which I passed with flying colors. My physician was surprised my resting pulse rate is 52 beats per minutes. At 44 years of age I am in excellent shape consistenly running and working out for 30 yrs. I had high hopes. But no waivers on this one. Oh well. Time to initiate plan B.

Good Luck to all. And thanks again for having me on your site.

Here are navy's requirements: PRT and height and weight. However, if you are over the weight than you have to get taped (thats what I had to get ) to see if you meet body fat percentage.

How did they tape you?

Specializes in Neuro, Surgical, Trauma and ICU..

I got taped at MEPS but I was down to my underclothes and they taped my neck, waist and hips. I also got weighed at MEPS but I am over so I knew I would have to get taped.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

I remember a long time ago when I got rejected....a hole in my heart, had it since birth, played basketball/swim team in high school. They said if I had had it fixed I would have been considered. No doctor will fix it since it doesn't cause me problems. It's a bummer when you get D/Q'd...but when one door closes, another one opens.

ok im new to this but i hope somebody will help me i desperate now i was disqulified for three reasons depression, sucide ideation, and personality disorder

and they wont let me in and i have been jerked around by all sorts of military recrutiers saying we will get you in and then they dont they always tell me something different and my last recrutier screwed me and summited me to meps without telling me i should have gotten cleared but the thing is all this stuff happened when i was 12 years old and that was the end of it but i wasent sucidel an but meps thinks i was so i need help any info on what i could do would be greatly apprecatied cause this is my dream so please

Specializes in ER/Critical Care.

are you on medication???? if you are that automatically dq's you. you need to be off all meds and psychiatrically stable for at least a year.

If this is the case, perhaps you could ask the recruiter to book you for your DOD exam at a outside contractor. and I would bring what records you have with you so that you could clear things.

Specializes in OR.

JMA1989, Sorry about your troubles, it can be a very frustrating process. Do you have past follow up documentation showing this was a childhood issue? Many things they will dismiss depending on the age.But you'll definitely need documentation showing no you have been asymptomatic. Also, your recruiter will need to get permission to send you to MEPS with the goal of a request for waiver. Hope that helps. I went down the waiver road because of back surgery and after 22 years they let me in.Best of Luck

no im not on any meds i have been off them for about 7 years now i was on medication welbutrin for about two weeks after all this happened then i stop taking it cause i felt it was not necessary but i was in outpatient counsling and i stop that my self as well see what happened is all these things happened at age 11 or 12 and all hit at once first my grandfather died second right after that my parents got a divorce and was always argueing about who gets what and who gets the kids third i had alot of problems at school dealing with teachers and kids and some other small things, but what i cant get threw to meps is it is not a existing problem

any more.Thats hard for a kid at that age to deal with so yeah i was depressed i did not try to commit suicide

its just at the time my mom was worried and she was just being over worried i guess you can say but whats is the DOD exam and how does that work cause of all the recruiters i have talked to they never mentioned that to me i have documentation stating the counsling and how that wnt but i never finished it and i cant find a recruiter

that wants to deal with all that all the recruiters around where i live not meaning any disrespect are lousy and dont want to deal with the paper work

Best advice out there is to keep your chin up and push through it. I was also medically disqualified but passed on the waivers, a feat most called impossible (I was hard up against a hx of asthma and tendonitis), but I had an excellent recruiter who was as clever as he was charismatic. He pushed my waivers so hard, I'm surprised they didn't pop all over DODMERB.

Specializes in M/S, urology, Onc, gerontology, psych.

My ANC packet is in a holding position at the moment since I cannot get a medical waiver for my sickle cell trait (not the disease). I have never had complications and do not take any medications at all. My recruiter has been giving me the run around, first he said that because I did not get my med waiver by Nov. 19 (board being meeting on Nov. 16) that it wouldn't go in, and now he called me today and said that he will just need more documentation (of non-treatment and having the 'trait' only) and he will push the packet thru by the deadline, Dec. 7. Talk about being on pins and needles. Is sickle cell trait waiverable??

andrew77: based on what I can find, most of the time, Sickle Cell Trait is not disqualifying and can be passed on waiver. That is of course assuming that you've never had a vaso-occlusive crises and that your hemoglobin level is above 12 g/dl. Good luck!!!
