Medical Uniforms

Hi,

I am attending nursing school. I want to know how often a nurse would purchase medical uniforms. Also, how much they would spend on them.

Also, I would like the same information for nursing school as well. Thanks

I usually bought 2 sets a yr. I had about 10 sets I bought them at uniform shops sometimes internet and sometimes thru a vender that would come to the hospital. One place wanted the nurses to wear maroon in the ICU others wanted ceil blue and some didn't care. It just depended on the hospital. You can deduct them on your taxes as well.

A shop I use to frequent has quit selling uniforms as they said they could not compete with the prices offered on the Web. I do not know anyone who buys one set of uniforms monthly, well maybe a new nurse who does not already have a collection of uniforms.

When i was on a unit, we were given an allotment where we could order specific numbers of scrubs per year. Something like 2 tops, 2 pants and one jacket or lab coat. The hospital paid for it and we had to order from a specific company. Now that i work in a school i am obviously on my own for uniforms. I tend to buy scrubs wherever i can get a good deal. Haven't ordered any in a long time, as i probably have about 20 sets, all in pretty good shape.

OOO I can't wait to wear scrubs!! I'm trading in my high heels and stuffy suits for some scrubs and flat shoes!! :D

I have seven sets with each set costing about $35.00 to $40.00 but I only replace them every two years or so when they look a little faded. I also own one lab coat which I've had for about five years or so that I wear during community events. One thing that no one has mentioned is shoes. I own three pair that I rotate everyday, I think this not only helps keep them new longer but it also keeps your feet from hurting as much.

I finally got rid of a couple of scrub jackets that lasted 10 years.

Uniform stores are an endangered species; I buy off the internet.

I work once a week and own one pair of pants, a jacket and two tops.

You can find cheap scrubs to start with if money is tight. How often you do laundry determines how many sets to buy.

Uniforms are easy to get right. Shoes are a more critical issue.

Our hospital is suggesting that we all wear Royal blue pants with white top or Royal blue scrubs. We have to purchase them ourselves. Cost can range from 30.00 to 60.00. Not including the Jackets which can range from 20.00 to 40.00. I think it depends on the manufacturer of the clothes what the cost would be.

Nurses don't buy "medical" uniforms, they generally buy nursing uniforms. (I believe that MDs, that practice medicine can afford to buy their own clothing for work.

A nurse spends varying amounts of money on uniforms or scrubs, depending on how stained that they get and how many shifts that they work, whether there are required colors, or styles for your employer.

A set of scrubs in my area can cost as little as $10 - $15.00 per piece and up.

For school, it depends on that schools requirements and clinical schedule.
