Hello, All

How many of you have health insurances? Are you recieving the best medical insurance for yourself and/or family members? Lastly, does the medical insurance cost a lot and if you do not mind could you share the amount for the insurance and deductible?

If you do not have coverage of medical insurance and could you tell is why?

I was wondering how many medical professionals working with out insurance. If you are working, and is it wise to work without insurance? Lastly. do you feel that everyone in medical profossional should have health

Thank you for your partcipation.

I have no insurance. I just work part-time as I have to take care of my 83 year old mother who has Alzheimer's. I did try several times in the past to get insurance but couldn't. Once I told them I had a history of malignant melanoma they all refused to insure me. :crying2:

Hello, Everyone

It is a shame that medical personnel does not have medical insurance. It is not right that medical insurance cost the amount of a morgage payment. I wonder what is importance to society people who are insured or people without insurance suffering with physical and mental illness. It is a very disappointing to see people sufferig because of the greedy insurance companies.

Have anyone tried to use the candian presciptions or mail orders? I have used the candian pharmancy and it is cost effective for me. I pay the price of rite aid for three months instead of every month. In addition, I have written to the company of my one medication and they provide my medication to me for free. Therefore, I had to use other resources to obtain my medications.

Also, you can speak to your physician about the cost of the visit and services that is being provided to you. Numerous of physicians will reduce their office cost for you and give you samples of medication as well. All you have to do is communicate your needs to your physician and it may pay off.

Lastly, there are programs that can aid in medication cost. I have been told my friends and that is another avenue.

Do not give up, when the door closes and another door will be open. Have the faith and it will work out.

Have a great evening,

I work in an outpatient psychiatric clinic. Our health insurance premiums just went up about 6 months ago. I was paying $127 every 2 weeks for medical, dental. Now I pay $268 every 2 weeks just for medical. My dental is additional $10 every 2 weeks. I work 36 hours and that is considered full time. I make a little under $17 an hour. A majority of my pay goes to make sure my children have health insurance benefits. I am outraged at the price of the premiums! I have considered dropping my health insurance, but as soon as I do, you know something would happen to one of the babies and you would be in debt for the rest of your life. What is a working nurse to do?

I have both Medicaid and Medicare due to dialysis and kidney transplant. I work part-time in order to be eligible for Medicaid buy-in program. I get SSDI (social security) as long as I don't make over certain amount from my part-time job. I am using the time now that I am healthy with strong kidney function to get my second degree in nursing.

I am sorry to those who don't have insurance or those have to pay so much for insurance. I believe that health care is a right not a privlege! Check with your state insurance department and see what kind of program where you can insure yourself, the kids or the whole family have avaliable. Some of the program are tricky, some will have pre-existing clause. Usually people with pre-existing are required to apply to Medicaid with a "spend-down."

Good luck to everyone here with their struggles with health care.

I think that if nurses had group health insurance that was reasonable that we could buy through a group the the National Nurses Assoc. then Nursing would be totally different. We would be treated with a lot more respect and retention would be important because we would not have to stay at any job due to need for insurance. We could work where and when we want. Boy, wouldn't that wake up employers...that we don't need them so they better treat us well.!!!

Hello, everyone

Great suggestion and the pay would be higher as well. However, would all nurse agree upon to purchase insurance from the Nurse association? Which nursing association should offer the insurance because there are several who claim to be the number one association? Should it rotate for example the ana and the american college nurses or would that take the unity away from the nurses? What are your thoughts about the suggestion that Homenurse brought to our attention?

I think it would increase the memberships for the support of the nursing association. I do not believe that the speciality should offer insurance at all. I do believe that a choice of coverage should be given and one nurses association should offer it.

I believe if we as nurses start showing our strength in numbers than it would scare the heck out of them and get rid of the middle man. I believe nurses should take care of nurses. I do not believe in another group coming in and trying to represent nurses because it is a whole different ball game...we are not truckers. We should form our own group and let them represent us on matters that we label as problems. That is another thread anyway.

Have a great weekend and evening,

I am a nursing student and I have no insurance. I lost my insurance on the 31st of last month when I quit working to go to school. My husband picked up insurance with his employer for himself and the two kids but we can't afford to add me. Spousal coverage would be almost $300.00 more per month. It really scares the heck out of me. For the past 7 yrs I have worked for an insurance company and have seen so many large claims for unexpected things that I know we could be devastated by a major illness. I am usually a very healthy person, haven't had a sick office visit all year but as Murphy's law would have it I had a UTI the first week of this month and now feel like I may have bronchitis. :banghead:

I am glad some of you agree. By having either private companies, ie- FArmers etc...or National Nurses Assoc or one or more of the other groups giving us a group rate option for health insurance we would regain control and be treated with respect. They no longer could trap us...they would have to treat us as true profeesionals to keep us wanting to work with them. What do you think?

In order for me to get benefits at my job...You need to be employed to work a minimum of 20 hrs per week.

I get paid every two weeks. My medical, dental, and vision is 36.66 total per pay check. That is 73.32 per month. I have me, my husband and son on the policy. Even if I had 5 kids...the amount remains at 73.32 for our entire family. Prescriptions are only 5 dollars, dr visits 5 dollars. It cost me ZERO dollars for all the prenatal appts, testings, ultrasounds, c-section, and baby's circumcision. Well-baby visits are 5 bucks. There is no lifetime cap on benefits. I was looking thru the paperwork and cannot even find where there is even a deductable!

When I go to the dentist it is free for the check ups and xrays. All diagnostic and preventive stuff is 100% covered. The deductable at the dentist is $75 per family per calender year.

For vision, it is 10 dollars a visit. You can get new frames and lenses every 2 yrs and the lenses are covered in full. I have a 115 dollar allowance for frames.

Needless to say, I am happy with our insurance.

I do think that people in the medical field should have insurance. You never know what could happen without it!! We are exposed to so many things. Especially if you have children!
