  1. Based on the Florida BON, Galen is listed as Provisional. http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/nursing/lst_trainingprograms.pdf
  2. I believe Orange Park has increased to 19.00 for grad nurse but I may be wrong... Jacksonville isnt too bad.. weather is good. The schools is Jacksonvile stink compared to clay or st. johns county, not sure if that matters to you. Traffic sucks. Southside is really busy, that side of town is growing very fast... I live in clay county, to the south, and you couldn't pay me enough to live in the city again.. I will drive in to work but gotta get out of there when the workday is over.
  3. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately this is an urban legend.. I saw this story long ago... It is a beatiful story and I am sure there are teachers that have inspired big changes in a child's life. But, no specfic truth to this and no connection to the hospital mentioned in the story.
  4. I am a nursing student and I have no insurance. I lost my insurance on the 31st of last month when I quit working to go to school. My husband picked up insurance with his employer for himself and the two kids but we can't afford to add me. Spousal coverage would be almost $300.00 more per month. It really scares the heck out of me. For the past 7 yrs I have worked for an insurance company and have seen so many large claims for unexpected things that I know we could be devastated by a major illness. I am usually a very healthy person, haven't had a sick office visit all year but as Murphy's law would have it I had a UTI the first week of this month and now feel like I may have bronchitis.
  5. This is just too funny. The article says it can be ordered from a company in Orange Park, FL. I live about 10 miles from there. When I clicked on the website link it is a website for a doctor I was a patient of many years ago. I drive by his office almost everyday. :rotfl:
  6. I have a former coworker that did the LPN program at FCCJ a year or so ago and loved it. I know she went to work at Shand's and planned on doing the bridge option but I don't know if she has done it yet. I am starting the RN program on Monday so I don't have any first hand knowledge of the instructors yet. Everyone that I have encountered at the campus has had good things to say about the instuctors so far. I haven't heard any of the "don't take xxx" , "avoid xxx at all costs" type things that I have heard about some non-nursing teachers in the past. What classes and instructors are you signed up for fall term?
  7. I am usually up until 1:30 - 2:00am. It is a really bad habit as I sleep over half the weekend away. Thank goodness for my wonderful husband who gets up with the kids around 8:00am on sat and sun and takes them and leaves the house. He comes back around lunch time and then lets my 3 year-old son wake me up. I got in the habit because I was working full time and taking a lot of class, I just couldn't study til everyone was in bed. I have quit my job and don't plan on working again until at least January so maybe I can get enough studying done during the day now.
  8. The last time I was in my school's bookstore I overheard the manager telling someone on the other end of the phone that they will not give out the ISBN's over the phone. But they did have a list of all the nursing books that we could copy at orientation. I think they figure that if you have to come into the store that you are more likely to go ahead and just buy the book from them.
  9. Congrats I can't imagine taking anat and micro at the same time.
  10. My school starts a class every semester. They took 144 students out of over 600 applicants for this fall, which is when I start. This school requires completion of A&P I and II, English Comp I, completion or current enrollment in Micro at the time of application, and chemistry. Human Growth and Development, Sociology, General Psych and one Humanities are required before starting the last term of the RN program but if you have already taken them then you get points for them also. Points from the classes you have taken and a specific percentage of the total points from NAT test, and additional points for some types of previous medical experience are added together for the students total points. No interviews. I applied but did not expect to get in for the fall because I still haven't taken Gen Psych or Humanities but my NAT scores pulled me over others that had all classes and I did get in, much to my amazement. So, I have to take them while taking the nursing classes too.
  11. Our timeframe to apply was from April 1st to June 1st for the fall program. They said 6-8 weeks for decisions to be made. My acceptance letter was dated July 15th.
  12. Loved Micro--best instructor in the world Hated A&P 1 ---not the class, the instructor--most pompous ass I have ever met...Nothing better than an instructor that insults and calls students 'flunkies' in front of the whole class. I wasn't crazy about College Algebra when I had to take it, either.
  13. I like the little mini Sharpies.. I have about a dozen different colors all on one of those loose rings. I also got a single hole punch that is about the same size as the miniture tot staplers. It actually is quiet, unlike most hole punches, and I was able to use it on all the handouts at orientation last week without being stared at for making noise. I also love pens, any and all assortments of colors. Crayola twistable colored pencils are also really cool, I just wish they were also erasable.
