Is it OK for male Dr. to ask female patient to undress in front of him?
why did she put the gown on over her clothes? Did she keep her underware on? If she did I don't see a problem with her being examined without a female in the room

What Gets to You??
Reply abput office people who tell you how to do your job. This was a big problem for a while where I worked. Once I was in triage with a baby diff breathing, and the registration person brought another child back by the triage (small head lac) and was waving her hands outside my door and I had to come out and tell them to go back to the waiting room. Reg was lucky not to be the next pt after that stunt. Another time was telling me that there was a pt with a really bad thigh lac that needed to be brought back right away of course couldn't answer any questions about severity since, "that not my Job" So since I couldn't see pants on brought pt to triage found out it was a 3 day old punture wound and was just here for a Td update. Every lac was an emergency, then she compained to medical director that I yelled at her. Finally she left for a job in the billing office never so glad to someone go!

Need advice from an Occupational health nurse
Go to AAOHN.com they also have state portals for state chapters and local chapters. You can then get in touch with other OHN in your area as laws vary from state to state. I have been a member of The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses and my local chapter the Western Michigan Association of occupational Health Nurses. I hope this helps

Florida licensure
Go here~ http://www.doh.state.fl.us/Mqa/nursing/nur_applications.html. They will send you everything you need. when you get your packet read carefully if you don't get it right it will delay the process. They send everything you need for endorsememt but also send everything for first time applicant so you don't need everything in the packet. Hope you enjoy it here in Jax. Lori

Florida licensure
Hi, I just moved to jacksonville, FL from MI in Dec. I took about 5 wk first I got a temp license the about a week later got the perm. I did need 3 CEU classes that FL requires a Dr. had to sign my ap stating that I'm phys and metally OK and had to get finger printed. Once I got everything together the process went fairly quick. Good luck! I hope you like it here, I do the weather is great and I sure don't miss snow. I've only been here about 3 wks and am currently job hunting. hope I find one I like. Unfortunally I left a job I loved, so I'm afraid I won't be as happy with whatever I find, but i sure hope so. Have a good trip Lori

Moving to Jacksonville
Thanks! I was just wondering, some people made it sound as if I would be taking a big pay cut when we moved. Pay here starts around the same so I don't think it will be much different and you guys don't have state tax like we do. I hate driving in traffic but I guess I'll get used to it. My baby is 21 so schools aren't an issure anymore. We decided to move into an apartment until we got a feel for the area, then look to buy. We will be on the south side for a while but may settle else where. Looking foward to sunshine we already had are first snow but in 2 wks we'll be settling in. Thanks again. Lori :)

Moving to Jacksonville
Hi happyJaxRN, I'm not there yet. We will be on our way right after thanksgiving. Thanks for the info. What's the pay range, I've heard the pay in Florida isn't that great and they don't post it on their web sites. I don't think I'll apply at Shands while I do enjoy getting a good pay check but it isn't worth killing myself to get it. I'd rather be happy! I've been working in Urgent Care so if I go back to being a floor nurse that will be a big change. I love Urgent Care but can't expect to find a job like the one I have. Thanks for the info. I'm glad you told me about shands.

Relocating from MI to FL
The economy is bad over on this side of the state as well. My guy is self employed and buisness has gone down hill this year. The economy is much better in Florida so we're going. I do love Florida, have been there a lot, Mom Dad and sister live there but they are much futher south. I won't miss winter don't like snow but there are a lot of things to miss and change is hard. I hope you can find school without waiting to long. Take care! Lori

Relocating from MI to FL
HI, We are moving to Jacksonville right after Thanksgiving from Grand Rapids, MI. The other poster must have thought MI was for Mississippi. The economy is pretty bad here in MI but don't have to worry about hurricaines. Where in Mi do you live? I'm looking foward to nicer weather this winter, but I love my job here and don't look foward to changing jobs. Will your Dad be moving with you, this has to be rough on him. Well good luck on finding the right school, it can be a long wait anywhere you go. Take care! Lori

Moving to Jacksonville
Hi, we'll be moving there right after Thanksgiving, I love Florida but haven't spent any time in Jacksonville. We are moving to the south side of town. I love the beach and we will be close by. I'm kind of anxious about finding a job, because I really love my job here and it took a long time to get it. I'll miss family here but I know we'll be visiting frequently. I have no idea where Sanford is. I'm sure shopping will great in Florida everywhere I've been has great shopping. I sure won't miss the snow. Have a Great Day! Lori :balloons:

Holy Cow!!! Help!!!
I would try Grandvalley but keep your name on the list, like you many of the people on the list go elsewhere change their minds or do something else. So in reality you usually get in before the date given. Good luck!

Jacksonville Job
Hi, I don't live in Jacksonville yet but am moving there this Nov., but I can tell you every hospital has programs to train new nurses. What you need to know is that you can't always get the specialty or hours you want but you can always try. Med/Surg is usually where new nurses end up but not always. You do want to find out about your orientation time and how long you will be with a preceptor you don't want to be thrown in to soon! Good Luck! :balloons:
