From experience I speak. You, as a nurse, can be sued for anything. Don't assume your employer will save you even if it was not your fault. Have good malpractice insurance. Make sure you know what u r doing and document well!!

Unfortunately, having a posted nursing position does not mean there is actually an opening. It is a common practive by HR departments to post openings to see what pool of people there are to fill the position. This helps them determine if and how raises, etc need to be given. It IS NOT RIGHT, or fair, but it is done all the time. It is very frustrating to those needing a job. Cynthia

Yes, nursing school is very demanding. It can be done and you can still have a social/ family life but it takes a lot of self discipline. You will feel overwhelmed and exhausted the entire time. If you are ready to work hard and sacrifice it is worth it. Cynthia

Having graduated from Methodist I can tell you it is not an easy program. I do feel that I was very well prepared when I graduated. The hard work and strenuous nature of their program does make you ready for boards and able to start as a nurse upon graduation. It was worth the hard work!

All good nurses do a full assessment every time they take care of a patient. Keep doing the right thing!

Your friend must either be very insecure or full of herself to think that a CMA is anywhere in the same are as a nurse. With more education comes more knowledge. Doesn't matter what the title or profession is. A MSN has more knowledge than a BSN, and the BSN have more knowledge than the RN and so on down the line. Yes, experience counts for something, but the more you learn the more you know... period. Thus respect needs to be given to anyone that put in the time, effort and the money to gain the knowledge!

I work at a county jail ( 45 inmates) as the only nurse. I make $24.50 per hour and don't have the political crap to deal with. Always busy and it is always interesting. Living in the midwest the cost of living is pretty low. I do not work in a rural area. Nice job!

Of course I let them know I am a nurse. Then they don't have to explain every little thing to me. I have never had anyone anything other than glad to know I am a nurse. They know the questions I ask are pertinent. The doc's and nurses relate to me better and treat me and my family with a much higher level of care and respect knowing I am a partner on the team to care for them. Homenurse 12

I wrote Dateline a few months back and asked them to do a show on the real nursing shortage. I explained that it can't just be nurses in NY and LA and it could not just be hospital nurses. We need to look at how badly all nurses are being treated. I know I have been over and over again. I love my patients but find it hard to stay employed at any one job for over a year or two because managements are so cruel. I don't think most nurses want to leave the profession, but are tired of being treated badly. Maybe we all need to write to all of these netwok news shows. If they get enough e-mails, they might take an interest.

I just printed off the suggested reading list and went to the local medical library and checked out many books. I got the books on the areas that I had not worked in. There are many types of case management. It worked for me. Hope this helps you.
