Medical Asst vs Nurse

I noticed the Career Technical College near where I live has a medical asst program yet when the students graduated as a MA they can work as a nurse in doctors office. For me the gripe is that they are not the same. I mean nurses go to school to become nurses. Medical assts dont do the nursing aspects.

Im not being sarcastic, dont ask if you dont want the answer. I dont know where you live but in my area the difference is not that much.Why are LVN's paid less than RN's ,because they are not RN's. LVN's do have less training, but there are only a couple of things I cannot do as a LVN and that is spike blood ,pronounce and there are some IV drugs I cannot push(and would not want to). I think it all depends on where you live and where you work. My base pay is well over 20/hr, but I have made as much as 30/hr. And a ADN is a RN, or they could have a MSN,BSN or be a diploma nurse. And I am not trying to be mean or "aggressive" but nothing irritates me more than someone who does not understand a LVN/LPN is a nurse.

No need for sarcasm. Why are they paid way below what a RN makes? In my state there is at least a $10 difference? No difference between ADN or RN.

Now I see why you are so defensive, you are one. I wasn't rude to you just asked a simple question that required a simple answer. You must get asked that alot or you wouldn't be so defensive about being a "nurse"

Sorry, curious as to why you chose to place Nurse in italics? LPN's are nurses. There is no need to be insulting or rude on this site please.

Medical Assistants aren't nurses. and i'm not even sure what exactly they do, really. I knew a girl online who used to be a MA and stated that she did almost everythign the nurse did, which really bugged me and her statement devalues a nurse's education, giving the impression it can be done by anyone with a bit of training. so many people dont' know what nurses do. my own husband asked me if i was going to be a LPN after i finished my RN. he thought a LPN was higher than a RN. no biggie, nothing against LPN's but just proof he doesn't really know what they are. my MIL asked me if after i graduated nursing school i was going to go on and become a "technician" (her exact word) b/c I am so smart you know. what the heck did she mean by a technician? huh? and what is wrong with being a nurse that one must always assume i want to use it as a springboard to go elsewhere in my career?

simply put, rn's have more training & skill than lpn's. both groups are legally licensed to use the term nurse......cma's, aides, pca's are not nurses. :)

edited to add: where i live, rn's make 6-8 dollars more than lpns.

hmmmm...i'm an lvn, but i'd consider pca's and cna's as nurses.

too me, there's 4 types of nurses:

np

rn

lvn

cna

why cna's ? because most cna's will end up being lvn's and rn's
