heyyy everyone ok so I am on summer break right now thank god! However I go back to med surg we have 8 tests left and I am told if you make it through med surg the rest is a breeze! I finished fundamentals nutrition a&p pharm 1 growth n development and 2 clinicals and I did well now med surg i feel SCARED! How did you feel? How did you make it through?! my avg is only an 80 after 4 tests :/ very nervous!!! I REALLY WANT TO MAKE IT THROUGH NURSING SCHOOL but with these tests sometimes you just dont know...

Med-surge. UGH. I just don't like it much either. We're on break right now too. When I go back, we've got 4 tests, a final and a paper due. The paper I'm currently picking at (not due until Sept but I plan on having 99% of it done by the time we go back)

I wasn't real fond at the way my last teacher did lecture. What made me the angriest is that I re-wrote every single one of her darn notes for the last test- then I proceeded to not do well on the test (there were some questions I second-guessed, and lab stuff that I should have known). Just UGH. At one point I told the family "I'm done. Not going back in August. Don't care that I'm passing clinical. I'm done." Then I think of how much work I have put into the last year. And that there's only another year (well less than a year when I go back) left. And I get a new clinical assignment (I wasn't real thrilled where we were these last 8 weeks). And a new lecture teacher.

And when we go back half of the next test is on Psych stuff- stuff that I saw during my Psych rotation.

We were told too that if you make it through medsurge- you can do anything.

Though I'm still just annoyed right now b/c I downloaded the schedule for the next 8 weeks and there's a test the day after Labor day. Kind of puts a damper on doing much of anything

hey cheryl well see we are somewhat in the same position I am told by many that its not easy and the key is to not give up and just try your hardest so that is my plan and I am determined to do what it takes!! We have made it this far and i have seen others give up and fail and i dont want to do that I feel like we can do it we have the potential and thats why we are here !!! TRYING to think positive med surg will be a long road and I pray i make it and I hope you do as well! JUST STRESSFUL lol

I finished Med/Surg 1 last semester with an A-, and never really felt stressed out about the class. If anything, I found Pediatrics much more challenging. Med/Surg 2 in the fall may be a bit more difficult, but we'll see. I think it depends on the individual - but don't stress out, just do your readings and try your best! :nurse:

Med/Surg I is first semester for us. I think it was pretty simple to be honest. A lot of the info was common sense, or so I think. Listen well in lecture and study like you have been and you should be fine! We start Med/Surg II in fall and already the reading as been pretty much like last semesters.

Good luck! Hope you do well!!

If you want to pass, STAY ORGANIZED and ON TOP OF THINGS! It's not hard, it's the workload. The workload will cause you to stress making things much worse. Don't get behind and go to lecture no matter what.

thank you I really needed this summer break to rest my brain lol I almost cant wait to get back and get through this I just want to make it and graduate in JUne thanks for your advice

Relax you guys have made it this far I'm sure you will do fine. Once you know how the instructor tests its a breeze. Bye the way they all test about the same. Even when you take certification exams. Just know your lab values and understand what they are really asking. Good luck to everyone! Ten years later you will look back and laugh!! I think nursing instructors like to torture students. :nurse:

thanks Dawn ! Yes they dooo :lol2:

Med surg is stressful. I am in an ADN program and in the spring I had Med surg 1 along with Mental health. I got very overwhelmed, stressed, and I have found taking tests difficult also. Sometimes you can study and study and study EVERYTHING and still get that barely passing grade. But sometime you just have to settle. When I get caught up on how hard things are, how stressed I am or that I'm not going to pass it really just makes things worse. You do what you can, try your hardest and it will have to be enough. Think positive, relax and take a deep breath when you are feeling like you can't make it through. Just makes sure every time you go into something whether it be a test, project, paper, or clinicals that you know you put your very best out there, because you never want to regret not trying harder. Good luck and have confidence you will do great!

I studied out of Saunders 4th ed. It saved me in med surg.
