med passes done on time?

I just got pulled from residential nursing to LTC side....They are in an uproar..."state is coming, state is coming". I am being pulled two days a week to the LTC side. I feel overwhelming incompetent when trying to get my med passes done on time. To top it off I got two write ups on my second day of orientation over there. The night nurse counts pill I guess...realized a senna dose was missed. I actually shared the cart with my orientation nurse. As I had to go to a three hour am meeting. I signed the write ups and felt disgusted with the whole thing. Does it ever get better? Does anyone get these med passes done on time? Will my license be in jeopardy if I am unable to get the am med pass done within the time frame? Thanks ♥

That night nurse is an absurd person if he/she's counting sennas to see if one was missed.

No, you cannot lose your license for being late with a med pass.

Yes, eventually you will finish the med pass on time most days, but no one finishes on time every day.

There are issues that can arise during a shift that are much more important than your med pass. I would imagine that the BON would be much more concerned about a nurse so fixated on the med cart that he failed to notice changes in condition than they would be about a nurse who doesn't finish his med pass on time.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It will get better as you get into a groove. Good luck.

Counted the senna?

Sounds like this nurse is neurotic!!

Thanks you guys!

I've worked with nurses who counted meds on a card which is absurd, but counting senna? Does she dump the bottle out every day to count them? Just plain idiotic. No one ever died from not getting a senna.

These were on a card and they get two bid. I did not do the am pass...the other nurse did. But seriously I don't remember whose who or who got what for the most part. It was my second day of orientation which was spread over two week period.

I guess the night nurse writes up everyone she follows for one reason or another. I told one of the managers it is easy to see why they can't keep nurses on that side.

if you end up having a state surveyor observe you during med pass

do not worry about time too much

make sure you do everything correctly and safely as you always do

i never had a surveyor observe me for more than 7 residents

you can sometimes shorten their observance by giving them

a variety such as eye gtts, liquids etc.

answer all questions honestly

if they ask if you always complete your med pass on time

tell them the facts

they know you can't always finish on time

tell the patients what you're giving

your night shift nurse sounds anal retentive

Wrong.

She's much more like a horse's butt!

Not to play devils advocate, but if I am doing a med pass and find an error that the shift before me did (as in missing a dose). I feel its my responsability to tell someone, which most likely yes you will get written up. Because even if it is "just a senna", its still a med error.

I'm the same.

But to be counting cards of Senna and keeping tabs on it?!
