Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!
Darn! That makes me so sad): At least this just means more time to submit a bad a** application. How is Microbiology going for you guys? I am literally STRUGGLING to keep an A+
@queen3lizabeth OMG you already took it and got a B+? Kudos to you, that is awesome that you're retaking it. I am probably retaking human anatomy/physiology. I received B's in both, however, I will NEVER retake MIC again....ever. Unless I for some reason get a C this semester LOL.
@KAS212 @queen3lizabeth you guys are retaking classes you got B's in LOL WHY?
I was reading other threads where applicants had 3.2s and were accepted! Did you hear we should have better GPAs? Now I am over here like "Should I retake my courses I got B's in?" LOL
I haven't taken MIC yet - how is that? hahahaha I hear it's difficult. Do you think admissions cares if courses are taken at a community college over university? And all labs are online right now - most schools don't accept them but maybe they do and given COVID it's fine???
I really wish I would've tried harder in my undergrad. ?
Darn. In another like info session thing, they said the application would open on the 1st but I guess they did push it back ?
I also haven't taken microbio yet! I am going to take it the second half of Summer and am kind of scared LOL.
I also wouldn't retake a class if I got a B in ? but props to you guys! I'm still finishing undergrad but my GPA is not good lmao. I still have Summer and two more semesters but I don't know if that will make much a difference LOL.
I definitely have to retake A&P 1 and 2 unfortunately. I have been taking these classes on Portage since it doesn’t really take long to get through. Im so eager yet a little nervous because I know the school gets hundreds of applications, sometimes thousands and really want my application to stand out in any way possible ?. They aren’t too strict on GPA but that’s just my preference for grades ??♀️. They don’t care where the courses come from, as long as they come from an accredited institution! Portage like I mentioned ^ is pretty good. Everything is on course hero LOL. Columbia also accept the online labs ?
@cnmhopeful95 LOL we do kind of sound crazy actually! I honestly do not think they care. To be honest I am really wishing I would have taken MIC 205 at my University. It has been so difficult. I did most of my pre reqs at community college because it is so much cheaper.
MIC right now is hard. They decided to condense our 8 week course to 5 weeks last minute. I have a test every 3 or so days. I finished my under grad with only a 3.4 and IDK I just feel unconfident in my GPA so I am just trying to prove to them I am worth accepting. The schools I am applying to are accepting labs online especially due to covid. I took most my pre reqs a year ago, so they were all in person. Except MIC 205.
I wish I would have tried harder too):
@queen3lizabeth whats portage?? I have never heard of that
I wish I would have tried harder earlier in undergrad but it is what it is! Dang I'm going to be taking microbio in 5 weeks and now I'm terrified LOL! I sadly have to retake anatomy but it shouldn't be too bad!
I know they say community college courses are accepted but it still freaks me out since before I wanted to be a PA and they were so anti-CC. ? They always said if you can't take it at the university you can't handle the rigor of the programs you want to apply to and that's just been engrained in my brain ?
That is so weird. I got my undergrad from Arizona State and I WISH I would have taken MIC 205 at ASU. People failed MIC 205 at CC, went to ASU and got an A in it there. So far all my courses have been soo much harder at CC than my University.....it is a bummer they think that way!
@queen3lizabeth yeah props to you! Get your GPA on!
I was contemplating MIC 205/206 over Summer session b and nutrition as well!
I am still up in the air with pursuing my MPH before - but also loved your advice to just apply this cycle!

So admissions told me applications will be available around mid-June ?
