Columbia is my first choice because they have a few research topics that I am incredibly interested in so I have been reading up on a ton of their research. It literally has everything I am interested in, but it is such a tough school to get into that I just applied almost everywhere. Any advice? @Gmilitar

Your chances of getting in is higher than, for example, Columbia undergrad. I think about 1/3-1/4 of applicants are offered admission, about 200 accepted students. There are a good amount of ppl who have gotten in with a GPA between 2-low 3’s GPA.

Honestly, just be yourself and express your passion in nursing. Just keep in mind that Columbia is big on global initiatives, research, and serving underserved and/or diverse communities. The most annoying part of the application is waiting LOL its hard to be patient when youre excited. But you are given way more than enough time to finish the app.

The biggest downside, and the only one that I can think of, is the price tag, 120k cost for tuition and fees for the entire MDE program. However, most people are offered a scholarship. But yeah, prepare yourself for that price tag.

I haven’t started the program yet but it seems like the program really does have a lot to offer. We’ll have our rotations in the major hospitals in NYC (this is a good opportunity to network) and you have access to state of the art facilities.

@Gmilitar

WOW!, thanks for the advice! It's still rather intimidating since I think there are typically 800 applicants! I feel like the majority of people are older with more healthcare experience, while I haven't finished my undergrad yet so it's scary LOL.

It’s a mix. I met a couple students who are also young and just graduated college, and some who are still in their last sem of senior yr. I also met a couple students who are in this program because they want to change careers. And ppl like me who fall somewhere in the middle who changed their future career plans. LOL the average age is probably 24-25

Hey guys! I am also looking to apply this fall. I have a concern about the prereqs though. I'm going to take 1 science prereq this fall, but I will also have to finish up 2 science prereqs in the Spring. Do you think this may be an issue and my application will not be reviewed? Thanks!

Hi ! And from what I've read In past threads and info sessions, prerequisites should be done by June. Right before we start class. So if they’re done right before June then you should be fine ! It wouldn’t affect your application

I have another question! Lets say that we do get accepted into the MDE/DNP program. Once we achieve the MSN after 15 months, can we make the decision not to continue on?

@HappyGirl123

yeah I believe we have that option if we decide to continue on or not

Hi everyone! I am arriving to the party late! I am so glad I found this thread! I am looking at this now - just found their program and interested in applying eventually. I would love advice from all of you!

Do you already have an advanced degree - or just a bachelors? What should I know about the application process? What worked well for you etc?

I have been working in global health for five years now. I have considered getting my MPH to help me get into a program like this....but they are so expensive ($75,000 online - I live in East Africa for work now) and I am not sure if it is worth the investment.

I would love advice!

And I saw one of you is from Phoenix - represent! ?

Hey there! I just have a bachelors degree, I JUST graduated a couple weeks ago...finally! My degree is in Global Health, I am so curious to know what you do specifically in East Africa, I think that is so wonderful and amazing. That already makes you such a unique candidate.

Honestly I think you should shoot your shot now to be honest and try applying for this round☺️ Not only that but the program is already so expensive, and if you are considering it IDK if I would spend additional time and money to get a masters. However, if you can find a cheaper program that’s a quick one year deal than that could be worth it possibly.

Application opens today actually, so I haven’t gotten to know what it’s like.

Hii ! You’re definitely right on time we’re all on this journey together. So, I just have a bachelors degree just graduated a few months ago. To get in of course you need a bachelors degree in literally anything other than nursing. As long as you have a bachelors degree you’ll definitely be fine. The application should open up today. And the fact that you’re in East Africa is a very big chance for you to get into Columbia ! They take an holistic view on the applications. You definitely should apply to Columbia for this round if you have all your requirements in hand such as bachelors degree, perquisites, etc. The application will have essays, letters of recommendations, a two minute recorded video interview. Just know they take a holistic view overall. Not just based on grades or GPA. Im doing my prereqs now. I should be done with them online by August. Im getting things done early because im just soo eager LOL. Either way the program is expensive but I think it’ll be worth it.

Do you guys know when the application is supposed to open? I thought it was today but I may have gotten my dates confused!
