Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!
Oh WOW!, that's great! I see you're applying to a lot of accelerated BSN as well! I've been wondering if I should do the same.
I would say not to stress too much about it, but I also stress out SO much! I also have high hopes since my cumulative GPA isn't the best right now, and the GRE is not required, but it's still terrifying. My pre-requisite GPA is good so that's my saving grace. But the fact that these applications define my future is insane.
Columbia is number one for me though for sure.
The accelerated programs are in AZ as well, but all they care about is GPA, they do not care about my experience at all, which is so unfortunate...My GPA is not bad but, it is not a 4.0 to say the least....
I think I might go for an accelerated BSN just incase Columbia doesn’t work out. But I know Columbia looks at applications with a Holistic point of view. So they look at your application as a whole, and the person you are, and what makes you a unique candidate. And not only based on how high your GPA is and what not.
Other programs I want to apply to weed out people based on GPA/GRE scores and I hate it. My GPA also isn't the worst, but it could be better! I like the holistic process so much and I hope it works out for us! I still need to take the GRE for other programs and it stresses me out! I might also try to go for an accelerated BSN in case things don't work out for me but I am hopeful!
What made you guys interested in Columbia?
yes I'm crossing my fingers we all get in ! ??
& Columbia always interested me and their requirements aren’t really horrible either. I love that you can get your masters and RN in one and also because they don’t require GRE either. It’s such a good school and love the holistic view that they have. I also cannot really move out of state right now and Columbia is right here in NY so it would work out really good for me ?

Columbia is my first choice because they have a few research topics that I am incredibly interested in so I have been reading up on a ton of their research. It literally has everything I am interested in, but it is such a tough school to get into that I just applied almost everywhere. Any advice? @Gmilitar
I know Columbia accepts about 200 applications I believe. So it’s a pretty big cohort in my opinion. I feel that the program shouldn’t be a headache to get into we just need to show our passion for nursing in our essays, personal statement, etc. It may be very stressful but lets be positive!!

Your chances of getting in is higher than, for example, Columbia undergrad. I think about 1/3-1/4 of applicants are offered admission, about 200 accepted students. There are a good amount of ppl who have gotten in with a GPA between 2-low 3’s GPA.
Honestly, just be yourself and express your passion in nursing. Just keep in mind that Columbia is big on global initiatives, research, and serving underserved and/or diverse communities. The most annoying part of the application is waiting LOL its hard to be patient when youre excited. But you are given way more than enough time to finish the app.
The biggest downside, and the only one that I can think of, is the price tag, 120k cost for tuition and fees for the entire MDE program. However, most people are offered a scholarship. But yeah, prepare yourself for that price tag.
I haven’t started the program yet but it seems like the program really does have a lot to offer. We’ll have our rotations in the major hospitals in NYC (this is a good opportunity to network) and you have access to state of the art facilities.

It’s a mix. I met a couple students who are also young and just graduated college, and some who are still in their last sem of senior yr. I also met a couple students who are in this program because they want to change careers. And ppl like me who fall somewhere in the middle who changed their future career plans. LOL the average age is probably 24-25
