Hi y'all, I hope you are all doing well! I just found out about this program not too long ago and now I am scrambling to get this application done. What are your thoughts on addressing my Ws on my transcript in the video essay? I'm not sure I'll have much time left to write the optional addendum. Thank you in advance!

Welcome! I am in the same boat of scrambling to get it done, so you're not alone. I think that if the Ws are directly related to the obstacle that you'll be discussing, it'll be fine. However, I would say to write the optional addendum if you find that you do have time! Just so that you have all of your bases covered.

Hi! I would advise not to do that as the video essay is meant to get to know you more and the question is looking basically to get to know you better through something you overcame (be it an experience at work or on your life). Putting myself as an example, last year (I’m reapplying) I talked about overcoming health issues with my wrist. They have the addendum for that specific purpose of addressing grades so it doesn’t take away from your personal statement. Hope this helps!

That works too ^ I think we were replying at the same time ? if it is directly related then I’d second that and go for it.

In the application it is very important that you show the admissions committee EXACTLY who you are and countless sides of you as a person. So whatever you talk about in the addendum should not be brought up again. You should focus on a completely brand new topic for every part of the application. Try to stay away from repeats of anything. I know it is sometimes hard to do that but, remember, if they have already read about something once they are probably looking forward to hearing about different experiences/ situations and etc. I hope this makes sense.

Does anyone know how we apply to the Columbia Honors Program?

Never mind, I found it in my email(:

Does anyone know if recommenders are allowed to submit the LOR after the October 15 deadline?? I'm getting nervous bc one of mine hasn't submitted theirs as yet, but I know other schools allow recommenders to submit LOR even after the deadline.

also does anyone know the price of the entire MDE program? online it says that its ~130 for 12 months, but the program is 15 months long ?

Yes they can submit it a little after the deadline I believe. You can email admissions for confirmation though. And its 130k. But maybe less, depending if they give us scholarships or need based aid, it would be lower.

Do you know if its 130k for the entire MDE program? I'm pretty sure they said its 130k just for 12 months, but the entire program is 15 months long

They mentioned how I think for the Summer or Spring we would have to pay something out of pocket. (Which loans would pay). So I think the 130k would be for the 12 months. I don’t remember everything exactly. But I know we would have to pay something out of pocket.

Okay, thank you so much! This makes a lot of sense!

Did anyone else not see an email from Vidcruiter? I emailed Columbia admissions to see if they could help but while I wait can anyone tell me what email address the email came from? I started my application a while back so maybe a more specific search would help locate it.

+thank you for all of the helpful comments/questions on this thread.

Cheers, Ann
