Published

Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!

I declined my offer due to the cost of the program and because it was online. If I knew we had the option way earlier to defer for 2022 I would’ve really thought about it ? because by then classes would be in person and I would get the full experience of the school and NYC. It sucks they didn’t offer that earlier. But it would be worth it knowing thats a guaranteed acceptance for next cohort plus in person classes !

Did they say classes would be entirely virtual? Or that labs and clinical would be in person and lecture online in a hybrid way? Can anyone answer this? Personally, if it’s entirely virtual then that might be something for me to consider my second school over CUSOM. Thanks in advance!

From all the info sessions I've been in, they said classes will be online. And clinicals and labs will be in person. Things may change later on though.

That wasn’t enough for me to pick up and move to NY ☹️ Hopefully things go back to normal soon. I may do my DNP in the future and try again with Columbia.

I think lectures for the first semester are online bc of the large class sizes, but after that they said it will mostly be in person

I was told just the other day that it will be virtual. Only clinicals and sim labs will be in person like once or twice a week. They don’t know when they will be back to in person learning. I think the 2022 cohort will be back in person.

Does anyone know how long you have to accept admissions if you are offered a seat? Like what is the general number of days you need to respond by?

"They would have to pay $500 to hold their spot for next year and they have until this Friday to do so."

- I'm confused by this. Didn't the folks accepted in round 1 have to give CUSON a deposit by Jan 29th? Is CUSON asking for an additional $500 to hold your spot if you defer? And none of the students in round one were offered a chance to defer until today? Thanks in advance for your responses!

The deposit is credited towards the 2022 tuition. I guess even with deferring the $500 for 2021 isn’t refundable. This is something new and definitely last minute that the school agreed on. It may just be only a one time thing due to covid.

To summarize, those who got accepted in the 1st round received their acceptance in early Jan and had until Jan 29th to put down a non-refundable $500 deposit to secure their spot. We received an email today that we are allowed to defer our acceptance to next year's cohort, meaning our $500 deposit will be credited toward next year's tuition instead. The deadline to defer our acceptance is Feb 26th.

This kinda sucks for those who rejected their acceptance because they had no idea that CUSON allows deferral (such as @Ethereal1102). Pretty slimy of the administration to do so in my opinion...

So for 2nd round decision, I am assuming they will have until the end of the March to decide? Also, keep in mind that there are people from the 1st round who ended up turning down CUSON after getting their acceptance from another school now that school decisions are coming out

We have to submit a $500 deposit fee after we fill out the form for deferral. I don’t think they move the $500 we already paid to 2022

This is what I thought too. It will be an additional $500 on top of the $500 that we paid to hold our spot last January.
