MDC Spring 2010

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey MDC soon to be RNs:)

We've been leeching of the Fall 2009 thread too long. It has 78Pages so far. I just wanted to see if we could hear from those that are in.

Has anyone registered yet? Bought your books? Any recommendations? Anyone applying for the New UM Scholars or Baptist Scholars?

Btw, that was great news to hear that UM is taking over where Jackson Scholars left off. Even, for those not interested in the program it's great because with those 2 programs it adds another 80 seats to the program. Thus, lowering the GPA cutoff, which should be great news for those that will apply in future semesters.

I'd love to hear from those that got in the Fall 09 but I can't seem to locate most of them.

looks like you are right...that would be terrible...a whole new set of classes :crying2:

I'm happy with the classes I already scheduled on Seq 1...I have Mondays off, plus clinicals at Mt. Sinai

tomorrow is my interview...praying that they go easy on me :bowingpur

Hello prospectiveMDC and future MDC nurses, are you all ready for the spring, its so close by, seems like winter break will be the last break for us for a while...

hello,

I also applied for baptist and received the letter.. but never got to apply to UM.. and I really hope is that amount of ppl that applied .. that means we have a veryyyy good chance of getting in ! .. good luck to all of us!

Oh someone on this thread could really help me with 2 quick questions. When did you first apply prior to acceptance for MDC Spring 2020? I assume Spring means that you will be beginning in January?

I applied to the spring 2010 term during summer break I believe that is the time to apply. If that is what you meant, not to sure about 2020? And yes, spring term begins in January.

I stand corrected, you are right, those awarded will not get a new set of classes. What I mentioned was the format that was going to be used originally, and they may still implemented it for the following term. They wanted to have all the UM Scholars together in each class but that will not happen this semester. They are going to see how this Spring turns out. So what you were told was the current model that will be used for the Spring.

Hey ruis90, we're so close that by the time this post is read by some, we would have started already. I will add, that during the semester, most likely I will not be venturing in allnurses. My focus will be in studying 24/7.

Prospective,

The day that I left for my trip our beloved scholarship advisor informed me that she had spoken to the dean so said that they would allow me to have my interview on January 4th. Im still waiting for the details, but Im so grateful for this opportunity!

Happy holidays to everyone. Hope to see you all in school next year

Hey MDCupcake, I now understand how they were able to move your appointment to the 4th. What we went to was a preliminary interview. The real deal may come soon after. Please, let us know which you receive on the 4th? If UM representatives are there, it's the real deal.

In conclusion, I understood the final results will by next Friday. So i'm not even sure if there will time for those next batch of interviews since the only ideal day would have been on the 4th, the day b4 classes begin.

Btw, if your classes are paid for already by your own money and you will be receiving this scholarship, you have to get your schedule reversed for an unpaid extension. So the then your voucher can pay for it. If you do not do this your 1st semester will stay paid by your own funds and voucher will kick in next semester.

You may want to do that on the 4th. You can also ask that question on the 4th and they will tell you who you have to see that knows exactly what's going on and what to do so you don't have to pay out of pocket your first semester.

It will also cover books and uniforms, though I don't know what happens to those that purchased their books already. I asked the head of the bookstore and his reply was a no go. If it applies to you, ask that if possible. As for me I purchased my books from former students, at rock bottom prices. Anyways, at the end they ask if you have any questions.

Good Luck.

Happy New Year everybody.

Hey Prospective,

We just made it back last night. I feel like I've been out of the loop for so long now. Ok, get schedule reversed for an unpaid extension, got it, thank you!! I honestly have to idea what I'm going into tomorrow morning. I'm a little under the weather, and seriously jet lagged so I'm just going to do my best. Do you know what the terms of the contract are yet, such as, the consequences for not completing 2 years of employment? I will give you guys a full report when I get back. Heres hoping it goes well. :-)

See you all soon!

Nice to hear from you. Hope you get well fast.

Going from former posts of others who have done Jackson/Baptist Scholars, is that you can alway buy yourself out of the contract. I would be prorated based on what you have and have not worked. So say after a year of full time employment, it would be like $2,500.

The refund would have to go to Workforce since they are putting up the funds. However, i'm not sure how that would play out with UM since they are not putting up the funds. What do they get in return for an employee breaking the contract.

In all you bring up an excellent question, since Baptist/Jackson Scholars were all paid by the respective hospitals, you simply bought your way out if you wanted to leave early. Now, since UM puts up nothing but the job opening/position... it would feel weird just to say bye i'm leaving and they get nothing in return.

Btw, PM me with your Professors and days, I want to see if we both have some classes together. From what I hear I got lucky with all my professors, at least thats according to current students and what some MDC staff have told me.

Hello!

Has anyone on this thred asked for a private Student loan for living and personal expenses while in nursing school? I would love to hear some feedback.

Thanks :D

Hello everyone! I have just registered to this site , although, I've kept my eyes on it for some time. I wanted to get an honest opinion in regards of the liklihood in my acceptance for the Nursing Program at MDC. I have a GPA of 4.0 however, I have three W's(withdraws from class). I understand that one of the requirements in joining the program is having no more than 3 W's but will these 3 Withdrawls exempt me from being accepted?

Any opinion is greatly appreciated! And also, congratualations in being in the Nursing Program this spring! :)

Hello Sarah,

I don't know the answer to your question as it doesn't apply to my case. However, I would suggest coming to the Medical campus in person to see an Admissions Advisor as it is very hard to get through by phone. Good luck! and sorry I wasn't much help :crying2:
