Hey MDC soon to be RNs:)
We've been leeching of the Fall 2009 thread too long. It has 78Pages so far. I just wanted to see if we could hear from those that are in.
Has anyone registered yet? Bought your books? Any recommendations? Anyone applying for the New UM Scholars or Baptist Scholars?
Btw, that was great news to hear that UM is taking over where Jackson Scholars left off. Even, for those not interested in the program it's great because with those 2 programs it adds another 80 seats to the program. Thus, lowering the GPA cutoff, which should be great news for those that will apply in future semesters.
I'd love to hear from those that got in the Fall 09 but I can't seem to locate most of them.

Wow, how did you register without going to orientation? Be on the lookout in case they drop your classes or at least thats what i've read from former students. Then again there's new protocols at MDC since their is new administration, but not sure if that affects the Homestead campus.
We had orientation on Thursday and I registered the next morning. I'm crossing my finger cause I'm applying to both scholarships.

Prospective,
I waited until Saturday like they told us (bad idea) a lot of the times I wanted were already full. Three of my professors are TBA, kind of scary. Orientation was riveting, don't you think?! I registered, bought most of my books, got my uniform. The shirt is seriously ill-fitting on me, I'm gonna have to do something to it. I'm applying for the Baptist Scholarship. I still haven't made much headway on my essay and its haunting me. I need to calm down, b/c the real stress will soon come. "MDCupcake, what are your reasons for choosing a nursing career?", my response "Duuuuurrrrr, i dunno..." Ahhhh. Its not that hard I know. As my RN friend said, it doesn't have to be the greatest story ever told, it just has to be YOUR story. Good piece of advice I think. Prospective, I wish we would have met up, I didn't really make any contacts at orientation, but I guess we'll meet plenty of people when classes start!
Hope everyone is having a good Fall semester, and congratulations to everyone!

If anyone gets a phone call or email from the Baptist Scholars program or UM Scholars for an interview please let us know.
I heard that for the Baptist Scholars only 50-60 students turned in applications. Those are good odds considering there 40 spaces. Not sure about how many applied for the UM Scholars.
I just got a Baptist Scholars letter today date Nov. 20th, the same day I posted the question about this program. What a coincidence.
It just says that the application has been received and is complete and to wait to be informed for next step.
Anybody else applied to Baptist Scholars or UM Scholars heard anything?
Hey Prospective,
I got the same letter yesterday from Baptist.
Hey Prospective,I got the same letter yesterday from Baptist.
Did you also apply to the UM Scholars?
I'm surprised that only 50-60 applied, I thought it would have been more, since there was such a large crowd the evening it was anounced.
No, I only applied to Baptist. Surprised? Try shocked! That room was packed, and it seemed that all 180 of us were going to apply for sure. Prospective, I was wondering, who told you that only 50-60 applied? If that's true, those are wonderful odds for those of us who did apply!
hello,
I also applied for baptist and received the letter.. but never got to apply to UM.. and I really hope is that amount of ppl that applied .. that means we have a veryyyy good chance of getting in ! .. good luck to all of us!

Hello! Thanks for mentioning the UM scholars thing. I was wondering where I could find more information on this?
I turned my application at the last minute and just asked (I wont mention name cause the mods get fussy about that) the person in charge and she guesstimated 50-60. I kinda figured the numbers would be low, cause we kept getting those emails reminding us when the applications where due That gave me the impression of a low turnout because if many had applied they would be no need for friendly reminders to turn it in.
Btw, why didn't you guys apply to the UM, it basically required the same paperwork?
Also, thought that one night about 180 showed up, many of them live too far from Baptist, me included. I would prob have to move down south if I get it. But, if I have a choice between both, I think I would choose UM for their leadership in the health care field.
Did you apply for it?
