MDC Nursing Spring 2017

Published

Hi,

I just took the Hesi entrance exam last week and I am about to apply to Miami Dade College for the Spring 2017 generic full time program. The deadline is September 1 so I am sure there are more than a few people that have applied or are getting ready to apply. I have not seen a forum as yet for spring 2017. I would like to hear from people who are applying for spring 2017.

Selling my uniforms. Still in awesome condition. Only worn for 10 months.

Please email me if you are interested:

L bottoms (green)

1 lab coat

willing to work out prices.

hi all!

Im currently in the accelerated program so i just wanted to give you a little advice so you don't have the same inconveniences me and some of my classmates had...

don't buy the uniforms from the bookstore, seriously, you don't need to buy them there they are ridiculously overpriced

Blue angels across the street has all the uniforms including the lab coat (which you don't need)

You can also get uniforms at Uniform Advantage and they will embroider the MDC logo for $10. They have some tops that only cost $10-12 so it comes out to about 20.

you don't need the lab coat unless you want it for class or clinical i guess if you're cold.

I use any old jacket for class (none of my teachers have cared) and I have a white zip up jacket for clinicals

Question on this, are you 100% certain those uniforms would be accepted? Are they the same green color and style? They kind of made it seem in orientation that you need to get the ones in the bookstore because those will be the "only" accepted uniforms. They also must have the school logo on it.

Has anyone already purchased uniforms for either of these places?

I'm going to add to this. I want to let you guys know which classes to pay most attention to. I'm starting semester 4 in spring so I can only talk about 1-3.

Semester 1:

Fundies- Hardest out of the 4. Study for this class the most.

Assessment- Medium. Just memorizing.

Nursing Math- Should be easy if you are good in chem type calculations like L to ML or ML to oz., etc.

Clinical- Easy.

Skills- Easy.

Semester 2:

Pharm: Hardest. Study almost every day for this class and do not slack.

Med-Surg- Medium. A lot of memorizing about different diseases.

Skills- Easy.

Clinical- Easy.

Semester 3:

Psych- This is the hardest class out of semester 3 for most students.

Pediatrics- Easiest class for myself and most students.

OB- Also easy, really depends what professor you have.

Clinical: Easy.

Hope this helps some of you!

I also wanted to add... they requested us to buy a black bag with stuff in it (they didn't show what was inside). This is for fundamentals. Was this actually used?

When I entered the program, I was under the belief that it was REQUIRED but it was really MDC trying to make more money. Honestly, I've seen people wear the scrub tops from the school but different bottoms..even my own classmates but our professors never said a word.

You use it for fundamentals and med surg lab.

It included: scissors, pen light.. tape measure

Also: 2 foley kits, piggy back IV lines..trach suctioning kit.. other stuff that I can't remember atm.

You would use them for practice during lab and the other one for your skills test.

This was kind of a waste as well. I didn't use all the stuff in the bag. :-/

Looking back, I would've probably split the bag with a friend.

Oh wow... ok, thanks for the info!

Myself and other students were tricked into thinking we needed to buy our scrubs from the bookstore. They make it seem like it's required but really they just want you to spend your money on the college and not anywhere else. Trust me no one has ever gotten in trouble for wearing scrubs from somewhere else, they don't even check or notice. Just make sure the green is somewhat similar and that you get the logo imprinted on it.

Ok awesome, do you recommend a specific place? I called Blue Angels and it seems they have similar prices now that MDC has a "package sale" going on.

I bought one package at the book store at the "sale" price. I also bought two additional bottoms across the street at Blue Angels so I have uniform sets for each day that I have class or clinicals. I was able to get the scrub bottoms for $15 each at Blue Angels compared to $20+ at the bookstore. I compared the two uniforms and there really isn't much of a difference. The color is the exact same thing. I actually prefer the Blue Angels ones because the small bottoms at the book store were a little close fitting for me while the medium was huggggeee. I didn't have this issue with the bottoms I bought across the street.

Anyone going into Miami dade part time lpn-rn program?

Hi Kim. Thanks for the info. I'am anxious to start the program but a bit nervous at the same time. I have two kids and hopefully won't be as stressful as they made it seem in orientation. I was under the impression that our schedule will be a lot more busy which is not at all. that is a plus. I was wondering if the schedule for semester 2 and 3 are pretty much the same or will they be longer as we progress? Again Thank you for your help.

Thanks to everyone for the heads up on the unis. Did the bottoms you bought at Blue Angels have the logo imprinted on it? Just curious.
