MDC *Generic F/T* Fall 2011 ;-D

Published

hi and congrats to all of us! i made this thread so we could all exhange info for out ft cohort. that way we won't get mixed up with the other p/timers and ao track! congrats to them too!

for those who are just tuning in:

  • our orientation is july 18th, the ati assessment is july 19. mark your calendars!
  • we do need to get titers for 2 tb's, mmr, varicella and hep b is highly suggested! i think hep a too!
  • the program is 4 semesters. we graduate in december 2012!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah:
  • we have to turn in all our paper work for orientation, which includes our drug screen, health record, background check(i think they receive this from the actually company though)
  • make your ati account!!! atitesting.com

what i have left to do:

  • get my drug screen and 2nd tb! should go tomorrow.
  • uhhh all my titers actually
  • my unform--although i've already gotten my skirt for clinicals (don't wear pants), i don't have the top or lab coat!!!
  • get my books-- i've gotten supplementals like an nclex book and stuff but not the actual texts.

what i have done to get ready:

  • i am going on a diet! healthy meals all day! i don't want to gain 10+ lbs--don't like the idea of being an unhealthy nurse lol
  • going over some, but not all a&p--mostly bones, muscles, heart, endocrine, and stuff like that.
  • cleaning out my room to make more space.
  • i got an extra desk--its big and spacious for those late night study sessions. i have another one but its small. mostly for the computer. but it has lots of shelves for my "enjoyment books".
  • i am cleaning my shelves(i have lots) and organizing the books by subject (anatomy, physio, patho, bio, chemistry, dictionaries, etc) and as time goes by, i'll put the nursing books as follows: (fundamentals, health assessments, pharmacology, patho, medsurge, specialties, references/dictionaries, review books)
  • i'm cleaning my filing cabinet out but i am making copies of all my important documents, including my health record incase mdc loses it, lol. so i'll have files for my health docs, extra copies of my other valuable docs(house docs, car docs, insurance etc), and drug screen results. i'm also going to keep file of my ap notes. this is all for simplicity!!!
  • i'm going to buy those under-bed storage bins to store my extras-- extra back packs, extra office supplies, and my sewing supplies(yes i love crafts)
  • make sure my dental appointments and my dog's shots are up to date!!!
  • i printed a ton of "grocery list/menu planner" sheets. i am going to put it on a magnetic clipboard and put it on my white board. every week or month i am going to pick out a day just for meal planning and grocery shopping. i am going to work it out so that the first semester i only have to go shopping twice a month. most of my meals, if they turn out alright lol, will be freezer meals.
  • i think i need to buy a mini freezer lol
  • i'm going to do all my fun stuff before school starts. i want to go to the zoo and see some museums and other geeky stuff with my mum. might not be able to for a while :crying2:

what other misc stuff are you doing to organize your life? i *love* organizing :redbeathe any tips would be great!!!!!can't wait :D :yeah::nurse::redbeathe:eek::p:rolleyes::D:clown:

Guys, here is this awesome thread that might save us for Health Assessment:

https://allnurses.com/nursing-student-assistance/health-assessment-resources-145091.html

It has a ton of cheat sheets, forms, and great links for Nursing Assessment... some people suggested going over your A&P which I have regretfully not done.... HTH!

Hi Guys!!!

I've been gone for a while! :( I have been getting my work in and putting my money together for all these supplies :/ I have yet to get the supplies bag for the 100 bucks at the book store. I just want to say hi though and Pixie I hope you're feeling better. I got sequence 2 with Villa/Maria clinical on Fridays.

So excited for the start of our journey!! YAY us! Talk to you guys soon!

I went on it for a while yesterday and bookmarked some sites. Really good idea, eagle! Thanks for the tip

Welcome back tanabella! I was wondering where you had gone to! I wish you the best of luck getting your stuff together! Maybe you can wait until near Sept. 23 to buy the supplies bag....and I am better, it just hurts now to type and write so I have to do my physical therapy. Thanks for asking :D Btw, I have Mondays and Thursdays off.

we may need the bag sooner pixie. i am not sure but if i am not mistaken we are using it for our skills class, not clinicals.

Hey guys- I too have been trying to work as much as possible in order to save for the 16 months to come . . . I'm going to continue working, but they scared me into cutting back on hours during at least the first few months.

I have a few questions for you guys though- I purchased a stethoscope from Medisave USA over 2 weeks ago, and the order is still 'processing.' Did anyone else purchase a stethoscope from them? I'm worried that i won't have it in time for our first lab.

Has anyone received syllabi from classes other than Fundamentals of Nursing? I received that one and *will* read for the first class, but I fear that I will be behind in the other classes since I have not received word of any reading that needs to be done prior to the first class.

I'd try calling them and seeing what is up. It shouldn't take more than a week to ship if you asked for it to be engraved. If you didn't ask for engraving, it should have shipped a loooong time ago.

I haven't received any syllibi at all from any of my professors. I don't know why. :'(

On Eagles Wings & Pixiemom,

Still reading your input and banter.

I, too, was wondering about wardrobe. Specifically... don't we need to wear our lab coat to skills lab?

Pixiemom- glad your wrist is healing. Being pain-free is a wonderful thing.

Hey fem!:) It is good to be pain free, for the most part. I still have stabs of pain if I force it into a position it can't handle yet, or if I try to twist it (like opening a bottle), but it's great! I don't remember the last time my hand wasn't numb or tingling!! Now it's normal!:D

Yes, I do believe we do wear our lab coat to skills lab. Now I just have to invest in a new pair of jeans and some nice tops! Hopefully, that will do well. I am nervous! I'm excited, but have jet planes flying in my stomach! lol Am I the only one feeling this?
