MDC Fall 2011 =)

Published

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

Hey Fcat,

Thanks for the quick reply! One more question, does the 2 page application require any essays or anything of that nature? Or is it all just personal information I can quickly fill out?

And don't be sorry, I did very well on the TEAS.. I got a 93, however my science GPA isn't as high as everyone else's on the thread; I only have a 3.5 XD

I am hoping to get into the accelerated program since I already have my Bachelors from the University of Florida, but am also applying to Generic just in case!

No essay, just your personal information, and by the way congratulations on your score, I think you are a very strong candidate to get into the program!!!

Good luck!!!!

Thank you! And good luck to everyone who is applying, I hope we're all classmates soon! :D

did you took the teas already and if you did was it difficult or any words of advice?

Hey I did take the TEAS over this last winter break and I got an 84...I have been taking 5 classes this semester so I knew that would be the easiest time for me to be able to get it done. I did think it was fairly difficult...I studied the book for about a week and really that is my biggest words of advice is just to go through the ATI manual and pick apart every subject gone over in the manual. If you understand all of the concepts in the book and you take the practice tests you should do alright...what killed me personally was the grammar at the end of the test, which is funny cause I just finished english 2 with a 95% haha...oh well...also though I have seen a lot of people on this site who have trouble with the science section...but it seems like those are the two sections that tend to bring down peoples scores so you might want to focus a bit more attention on them if you are decent at math and english already... =) Maybe some of those that got in the 90's have more words of advice?? Good Luck to you!

Hello all..I'm taking the stupid TEAS test tomorrow for the second time. I got a 75.3 the first time and my GPA is 3.8. What do you all think of these scores? I really don't think I'm gonna do that much better the second time around. Has anyone taken it the second time and is it the same test as the first time?? Help me....PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the word is that the test is exactly the same. Your competitive score is 83.18.... Just make sure to knock it out the second time with an 80 or better. A lot of people are scoring within a mid 70 range so if you can break out of the 70s you'll be sitting comfortable. Your GPA is already really solid! I think you have a good score. Just remember the Teas weighs more than your GPA. You've already knocked them down...... this time KNOCK 'EM DEAD!!

Hi Shamanai, thank you for your response. I don't know how the heck I'm gonna get an 83!!! I feel like i can't do any better! Any tips for me?? Also, how do you know my competitive score is 83?? Thank you for your time!!!

Your competitive score is:

Your GPA times 10

Plus

Your TEAS score times .6

So: 38+ 45.18 = 83.18

Even a point higher on the TEAS helps!! Just bring your A game!

So I decided to apply to the accelerated program last minute. All of my transcripts were recieved in early april. I completely forgot about the TEAS until last Tuesday and the only available day before the deadline was the next day (Wednesday), so I took it. Then, I found out I was missing human growth and development as a pre requisite, so I am taking the CLEP for that today. I already have a bachelors degree from UofMich, and I will have my masters degree in biomedical sciences next week from Barry, but I don't think that matters. Is acceptance to the program strictly a ranking of a list determined by gpa and TEAS score, or do they take other things into consideration? Just wondering. Thanks and good luck.

Pretty sure it is just science gpa and TEAS...but maybe it is different than generic...have u tried checking the mdc nursing website?

Yeah the website doesnt really offer the best help... Ive been to the admissions office a few times, but it's hard to get concrete answers. My Teas score was good, but my gpa, because my classes are all over the place will be in the range of 3.2-3.5 depending on what classes they use to fufill the pre requisites. :/

so I guess I will just wait and find out :(

I hope everything works out for you! As I understood it, HG&D was an absolute must for pre-reqs, but if they let you CLEP out, great! Accelerated generally has less people applying to the program, but I don't know how many spots they have open. Word on the street is that it's less competitive, but I'm no expert on whether that's really the case.
