Hello fellow students! I wanted to create a topic for those who are planning on starting the MDC Nursing program in the Fall of 2019. It's never too early to be well prepared. LOL. I have a B.A. and was able to get some of my credits transferred to the A.S. I read through the thread for the Fall of 2018 class and the Spring of 2019 class. Both threads have some very useful information regarding how to study for the HESI, scores needed to get into the program, etc. and many people from those groups keep in touch in Facebook and via Whatsapp. I'm looking for a support/study group for those that are in the same timeline as I am. Just starting BSC2086 A&P 2/lab and MGF1106 next week at Kendall/Homestead campuses. Also, looking for P/T work at Baptist Hospital or MDC. I am anticipating taking Microbiology and the Intro to Healthcare in the Spring '19, along with the HESI. Hope to meet some great people on here!
Hi everyone! I will apply for accelerated option (fall2019) next month. My science gpa is 3.6 and my HESI score is 74%. I’m so stressed out about HESI. My question is do I have a chance to get into the program or I should retake the HESI again? If the Whatsapp idea is still on the table i would love to join. Nice to meet you everyone:)

Hi Nooronnie! There's always a chance! The acceptance depends on the applicant pool and how everyone scored. If you feel that you can improve on your score then i would go ahead and do so. Remember you get 3 lifetime tries.

To work 12 hour shifts as you do in nursing is alot of time from your life and if its something you dont like and are not passionate about you become burnout and unhappy. Although its a career that pays well its not a good enough reason for me to pursue
I completely understand that nursing is not for everyone. When your heart is not in it, both you and your patients suffer the consequences. I commend you for realizing that and deciding to choose a career that will make you happy.

I agree with Manny15 that you should try for a better score if you really want to feel more confident about your chances of getting in. It's not impossible, however, depending on who is applying and what their totals are, you may be pushed out. Personally, if I don't get at least an 80, I will be retaking mine. My 1st attempt is planned for the summer since I won't be applying until November for the spring semester. Regardless of what you choose to do, good luck and welcome to the discussion!

Are you allowed to apply for the fall if HSC003 is the only pre-requisite left and you plan on taking it during the summer? Just decided to apply to MDC and this is the only pre-requisite I don't have. I'd be applying to the Accelerated option.
Hi and welcome! Just curious, were you planning on doing a program at another school and now decided on MDC? If so, why?
Hello Everyoneee!!!
My name is Salma and I'm planning to apply for the fall semester 2019 my science GPA is a 3.5 and I take my HESI for the first time on friday the 29th. superrr nervous if I don't do good i'll probably have to wait to retake it and apply for spring 2020. I know that nursing is super competitive and I was just wondering if you don't get in can you reapply or is that not a thing. i'm currently taking 7 classes this semester and i'm doing well in all of them just haven't been giving a lot of time to study for the Hesi and I really want to apply for fall but i'm not sure if i can reapply for spring if i don't get in.

Hello Salma!
Congrats on your score, surely youll get in!
The competetive score is calculated as follows
- GPA 40%: Since gpa is on a 4.0 scale simply multiply by 10
- HESI 60%: Multiply your overall score by .60
Simply add these two scores together and voila!
Your competetive scores comes out to 87.8....Good Luck!

Nice work Salma! That's a great score. The highest score I have heard off among my group of fellow students is 91. One of them received an 85 and he's going to take it again next week. Congrats!! Pointers on how you studied and what you found hardest?

I had this problem in the past and spoke with an advisor. In order for you to apply for Fall 2019, you must be taking that class this spring because by the time you finish the class in the summer, decisions on acceptance will have been sent out already or about to be sent. So if you are taking this class in the summer, you must apply for the Spring 2020 cycle unfortunately.
