MCC Nursing Program Info - Just Got In

Just got accepted into MCC's 4 semester Nurse program.

My question is,,,,,,what is the school/clinical schedule like?

I heard at Chandler/Gilbert they run like 3-4 full days a week and the rest are off.

Do you attend classes everyday or is there one day where you attend classes all day?

I do plan on working full time while doing this, but I work at a job that is flexible and I only work 10 days a month. Plus I can study at work pretty much all the time.

So anybody have any info on the Block 1 schedule that they may have experienced?

Also, do you get to pick your schedule or are the classes just assigned to you and you accept it?

Thanks everyone.

Congrats!

My friend just graduated from MCC, it's a great school. She went 4-5 days a week and I'm pretty sure she didn't get to pick her schedule. Nursing school isn't like regular school, you pretty much do what you're told and show up when you're told to show up, there's not a lot of freedom in scheduling. You also have a lot of lab time that you need to get in so that you can practice your skills.

Good luck with school and congrats on getting in. You'll get a really good education at MCC, it's got a great reputation with the hospitals.

Wow, congratulations!!

Congrats!!! I just got into the program at Estrella Mountain CC. I can't wait and I too am excited! I was also thinking about working part time or maybe if I could find a job full time, but everyone keeps telling me I'm nuts if I do so. Where do you work if you don't mind me asking? I would really like to get a part time job or something that is flexible with my schedule, but it just seems like that is hard to do and still get somewhat decent pay.

I work at Southwest Ambulance an a 911 car. When were not running calls I can study. Gotta have your EMT cert though.

hey congrats!! I just got in too!! At MCC at suncity. I'm excited!! I start in the fall, just waiting for my paperwork now!! :D

How long did you all wait?

I waited exactly a year to get my acceptance letter and then another six months till I actually start school, so all together 1 1/2 years. It really feels like forever when you are waiting, but if you are taking your other co-reqs or maybe the pre-reqs for the BSN then it doesn't seem to be as long.

Congrats on the acceptance!

As far as scheduling, sometimes you don't find out until the week before clinicals where you go. As someone who is in nursing school, I do not recommend working full time. Most of us thought that we could pull it off, but it's tricky. Many, many of my classmates learned the hard way (some were EMT B's that did 24 hour shifts, too). If there is any one piece of advice that I could give, that's it.

I also waited almost a year to get letter and it will be another 6 mths till classes start, so all together a yr and 1/2 from sending in application.
