Mayo Nursing Externship Summer III 2019

Published

I applied for the Summer III nursing externship and I just wanted to start this forum to see where everyone is at in the application process.

@bsnAU What did you do on your days off? How was the housing situation? What unit did you work on?

@bisonbsn I just accepted a great internship in my hometown as well! It is in my top choice unit so I am really thinking of just sticking with it unless Mayo happens to offer me something in the same sort of unit.

@stieni01 Congrats! Even though Mayo seems like a great place, I feel like any internship experience is going to be full of learning and growth so whatever happens it will be great!!

What were everyone's top choices for unit's?

@stieni01 congrats!!! that's so exciting!

@carv 1. ICU (top 3: Trauma/General Surgery, Medical/Surgical Transplant, NICU)

2. Hematology/Oncology

3. Inpatient general care (top 2: Trauma/General Surgery and Float)

On my days off I did a lot of things around and in Rochester, and hung out with the other externs. Rochester has a lot of summer activities that are put on from movies in the park, concerts, and street fairs. Everyone gets really close so there's always someone to hang out with! There's also really cool hiking spots around Rochester, and on the 4th of July a lot of externs went tubing down the river of town nearby. Minneapolis is close so I went there a couple times to baseball games, mall of america, and just hung out in the city.

You stay in 318 commons (which is in downtown Rochester) and will either have one or two roommates. It's a very nice building and has skyways to the hospital. They send out information about your preferences of a roommate after you find out you get into the externship. They do a really good job of pairing you with someone you get along with. My roommate and I still talk all the time!

I worked on the Oncology Unit at methodist hospital and absolutely loved it. I was hoping to get an ICU position, but any floor you get placed on is a fantastic experience.

Hi everyone I am so excited I was also chosen in the top 100! I cannot wait to find out, I wish it would HURRY up!!!
