Mayo Nursing Externship Summer III 2019

Published

I applied for the Summer III nursing externship and I just wanted to start this forum to see where everyone is at in the application process.

Any cardiac unit works for me!

Are y'all application still says "application in review"?

Last year and year before that, they would change it to interview...

Does anyone know how much the provided housing costs?

My app still says in review too. I heard that the housing costs between $200-250 a month but I'm not sure how true that actually is.

If that's true that'd be amazing! That seems so cheap especially compared to how much we'd make

My application still says "In Review" as well. I wonder if there's any chance we'll find out before the 15th if we made it! That would be so great. February 15th seems like forever away!

mine also says in review still!

Whenever I called the placement office last week, she said, "It looks like y'all are supposed to find out the week of the 11th." So I'm REALLY hoping it means before the 15th, but also trying not to get my hopes up or else that week will drag along sooo slowly

So on the job description, it said 8-hour shifts m-f. Does this mean that there would not be anything at night? To be honest I do not know much about the program itself! I am hoping to live in the offered housing but I have a support dog and I am not sure if he would be allowed.

@stieni01 Yes! I am under the impression that there wouldn't be any nights or weekends, I've herd that its all day shift (7-3)

Awesome! Did any of you apply for other internships?

I accepted one in my hometown but will definitely accept Mayo's if I'm offered it!

JUST 11 More days!!! I have 3 tests before 2/15 so hopefully time pass by fast til then.

How y'all doing?

Hey everyone! I was a summer III last summer and wanted to help out with any unknowns you may have. For you all who got the email requesting for more information you are in the top 100 and will be narrowed down to 50 externs (there will be about 15-20 people who will be on a waiting last if any externs aren't able to do it). Your preferences are taken into account but they look really into your essay/resume to see where you would fit in best. They spend a lot of time on this! And if you don't get your top choice, you have 3 observations days where you can choose any other floor to go "observe" on for the day.

Housing is 200/month and you will be working Mon-Fri 7-3! (BTW parking was 100/month in addition to that). Mayo parking is crazy. But they pay you well so it's not too bad! Plus you can walk to work which is super convenient if you live at 318 commons. There's also opportunities to pick up shifts as a "sitter" if you want paid extra hours!

Any other questions you may have you're welcome to ask me!
