hello bsnrnmd.. i am also an md-rn. in my area (san francisco bay area), there is no MAN (Master of Arts in Nursing). there is only MSN (Master of Science in Nursing). i honestly don't know if the MAN will be recognized/accepted/accredited here. but, then again, this is a small area relative to the size of the entire USA. perhaps other RNs in other parts of the US can give you a better answer.
good luck in your studies! i, too, have plans of getting a Master's Degree in Nursing.

hmmm...i wonder where is pinoy_np? he can answer your questions for sure...perhanps suzanne has better answer too..anyways, i am thinking of taking master's degree in nursing too. but since i am new, and i am working only for less than a year, maybe i will decide next year. i started surfing the net about master's degree in nursing, or msn here in the u.s., it seems like it is hard to get in graduates program when you don't have the money...imagine the tuition fees for one university i looked at was $514.00 per credit...thats like 24,672 philippine pesos!! also, there are a lot of requirements before they even consider you to be accepted in the graduate's program.. but, i heard from a lot of people that a typical np makes at least $80,000.00 a year...that's a lot of dough!!! anyways, not to be out of the topic, i don't know if your master's there can be credited here, you might want to have your studies evaluated by credentialing service...other than that, keep searching...

yeah. where is he?? i'm sure he'll come around.
i think some adns and bsns can easily make 80k a year as well, esp. in ca but suzanne will be the best one to answer that.
aren't there us hospital experience req'ts as well for some programs?

hi i just want to ask what's the difference between BSN, RN, NP, MSN? coz i've read a lot of them in the internet i believe its the hierarchy of a nurse in the US. so what's the highest among them? thanxs!
I'm sure someone will come around to answer your questions.
We also have an Advance Practice Nursing sub-forum here at allnurses.com where you can do a reserch on. https://allnurses.com/forums/f253/
yep, they require at least a year of work experience. what really bothers me is the requirements to get in...like the gre, gmat, i need to write an essay blah blahs...well, that's just a plan. having an msn is good when you want to either teach in college, or be a nurse practitioner, like they said, always explore the possibilities...
yep, i agree. always explore possibilities to improve oneself. :wink2:

There are Master's of Arts degrees in nursing in the US as well. Just because you have not heard of them, does not mean that they do not exist.
Where did you do your training for the MD? What was your specialty before you decided to become a nurse?
And the degree is recognized in the US, same as it is from every other country, but it will not give you Advanced Pracice RN status or licensure. You will need to complete additional courses to be able to do that.
It would be the same as a generic MSN for a new-entry RN in most cases. It will not eatn you any more salary when coming to the US as you will not have had any US experience.
To work in the US from the Philippines, you need to have a four year degree called the BSN. The RN is the title that you get after you get a license and are registered. RN is not a degree.
In the US, you can either get a Diploma in Nursing, the ADN, or the BSN.
MSN is Master of Science in Nursing, this can be in multiple areas, some are clinical, some are administrators, some are generic degrees meaning without a specialty.
NP is nurse practitioner. That requires the MSN, as well as additional clinical and theory hours.
There is a more detailed explanation under the NP, advanced degree forum.
Hope that this helps.
