Has anyone heard of this? I was interested in cleaning out my system and heard that this was a good way to do so? It involves fasting, but during the recommended 10 day fast, you are constantly drinking a lemonade concoction made of lemon juice and maple syrup grade b (which is supposed to give you nutrients -grade b only) and drinking a tea that is supposed to move everything (wastes) along. Does anybody here have advice either way?
I did not want to post this on a holistic thread because I did not want one sided information. I do however want some advice on this or a better alternative to cleaning out my digestive system (i.e. names of products and where to find)
Any help would be appreciated.
Go-Lightly should do the trick pretty well.:chair: :chair:
Actually, I do some alternative health things myself, but if you want to get really "clean as a whistle", do the go-lightly. It tastes yucky though.
I don't know of any medical studies that show the superior efficacy of the lemon juice maple syrup or other "liver cleansing" type fasts....
What is Go Lightly and where do I get it? How is it used?
I can't fast. I get too aggitated, my sugar and moods fluctuate, so I don't try.I haven't heard of that fast, but the maple syrup if for glucose, and the lemons are good for the liver, I think.
Renee, also gave good advice. Another good cleanse, is fresh fruits and veggies, and not meat, lots of water. Maybe even Metimucil, which is natural (rather than Ex-Lax or Go-Lytely).
Herbs such as burkdock root, dandelin root/leaf, milk thistle are also good for detoxing the liver/kidneys.
Or an all juice fast, including veggies and fruit juices (a juicer here is a must).
The verdict is still out on fasting, as there is no real scientific evidence, just claims from various people who've done it. However, it's a centuries old practice and many reliable holistic people support it.
What is the goal here, and why do you feel the need for a cleanse. Is it just general detoxing?
Thanks for the info on the herbs Tweety. My goal is to detoxify myself. I know that you can lose weight doing the fast and that is not my intention at all, but I do want to go beyond just cleaning out my colon.
I'm with you, our bodies are wonderfully made to do the job.And Golyghtly works pretty darn well in just a day or two. :)
After taking care of so many "bowel babies" from the depression era I'm convinced that the more we mess with our normal elimination, the more problems we end up with.
I agree.
As an IBD sufferer, I can't imagine why anyone would use Colyte/Golytely on a voluntary basis. But as a matter of information, I believe that it requires a prescription.
Some of these fasts/cleansing products can really mess up electrolytes and cause serious repercussions.
Has the OP discussed this "cleansing" issue with her MD?

Go natural then with lots of varieties of fruits and veggies for a few days and lots of water. Eat foods high in antioxidants like berries, dark greens and such.
DO NOT TAKE GOLYTELY. That is a bowel prep for surgical procedures and colonoscopies, and you probably need a prescription for it. Again, take something natural, daily like psyllilum (sp?, which is the natural ingredient in Metimucil). If you want to detox, taking medications likes laxatives doesn't detox, just ads chemicals.
Detoxing and cleansing is more than just about the bowels. It's more about the liver and helping it be strong to remove toxins from your blood and fat, etc.
There's all kinds of ideas on "cleansing" the body. (Including making simple changes like avoiding caffeine, and drinking a hot lemon water 30 minutes prior to breakfast). A ten day fast is a bit extreme for the novice, imo and I would think that would be stressful in on the body. It's good that you're asking questions because there are quacks out there.
In my opinion, diet and lifestyle changes would be better than a fast. Just my opinion.
http://www.herbsforhealth.com is reliable magazine. I remember reading an article about "spring cleaning" recently, maybe you can search. There's also forums there were you might ask questions.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely check out the site. Can you add sugar to the hot lemon water? My grandmother used to give us that (with sugar or honey) when we were sick, but I didn't know it had any other purpose. I loved to drink that because it was like drinking tea - so that should be no problem.:)

Most detox programs tell you to avoid things like sugar and caffeine. But if it brings back warm memories of grandma, go for it. :)

Yeah and there was actually a movie with these characters in it but for the LIFE OF ME I CANNOT REMEMBER THE NAME.
Maybe I need a brain cleanse . . . .
