Keep applying. It too almost 4 months for many of my classmates to land jobs. Many new grad programs are filled and wont open up until the fall so Ive been told. Keep trying and dont give up Beth Israel has about 20 new grad positions advertised on there website. Good luck

    hi,

I interviewed for a job on May, 1st and accepted teh position when it was offered a few days later. It is in northeaster MA. Dont give up, keep trying. Also try calling nurse recruiters at various hospitals so they will recognize your name when your app and resume are sent in.

I totally agree. I've been applying since feb/march and I'm having no luck either. I think it's too late for the July/Aug new grad programs now.

I've started looking outside of Mass.

I actually had 2 interviews recently and got a job offer :spin: ..HOWEVER...I started applying for jobs in April and applied at roughly 12 different hospitals and several community health centers. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to have a job, but it's still discouraging. Part of the issue is that many students got their positions where they did their preceptorship..I got the run around at mine (political) and I think the lack of preceptors at institutions is another issue.

ya i agree with you janine. everyone i know who has a job is working on the floor where they were a nursing assistant or they are moving out of mass.

I can totally relate. I must have applied to at least 10 different hospitals in and around Boston with no luck. Part of my issue is that I have an ADN and as of January 1st, a lot of hospitals have changed their requirement. I know that BWH, MGH, and BI all fall under that category, unless you already work for them. They all want at least a years experience before they will consider an ADN. I don't know if you fall into that category. Apparently, there isn't much of a shortage in MA. Keep trying, though. Good luck!!

    Hello, everyone:
I am new member here. My situation is similar with sleeyjane. I just graduated from an ADN program and facing the same difficulty finding a job in a hospital like BWH, MGH and BI. Do you guys have any suggestions on what hospital to apply? Thank in advance.

    Hi,

I'm hoping to move to Boston in August or September. I finish school in Mid August, I know it will take a few weeks for the paperwork to go through, sit for the excel, and eventually receive my license.

My question is - Will Boston hospitals allow me to start a new grad program without having a license in hand? If not, do people usually work as a nursing assistant before they eligible for a new RN position?

    Thanks! <3

    hi Hollyhox,

Unfortunatly it is illegal in MA to work in an RN position, even as a new grad, without a liscence. It is even illegal for them to hire you into an RN position until you are an actual RN; However a lot of the hospitals will hire you and then delay your start until you pass boards.

I was hired by a MA hospital back in April and start in a couple of weeks. Most of the new grad programs in that state do not start until July for that reason, so that you have time to take the boards.

    Good Luck.

Sorry Swtooth, but not clear on your post. You said, "It is even illegal for them to hire you into an RN postion until you are an actual RN." But in the very next sentence, you write, "a lot of hospitals will hire you and then delay your start until you pass boards."

So, which is it? Is it ILLEGAL for them to hire you before you are an RN, or is it LEGAL for them to hire you before you are an RN? You can't have it both ways.
