Maricopa Comm College CEP Fall 2017 Applicants

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Looking to see if there are any other Maricopa Comm College CEP applicants out there yet for Fall 2017 start (summer 2017 at the university). I put in my application Nov 7th & was told it would be a "couple" weeks until I was notified by email if & what schools I get accepted to. Anyone else out there...yet?

I selected ASU and GWCC evening as my first choice, following by GCC evening, and MCC afternoon. The only reason I selected ASU is because I work there and receive reduced tuition.

Good luck everyone!

You would start nursing block 1 in Spring 2018 if accepted in the summer enrollment.

Today is the last official day MCCCD will accept applications for the CEP Sum/Fall 2017 cohorts, which I'm sure most of you well know. Let us know if you hear anything back in the next days/weeks/months to come. Let the wait and watch of our inboxes & mailboxes begin, good luck to all!

I am hoping to start my online classes with Ottawa in fall, and enter the spring 2018 nursing block....any idea if I get my application in before the May 31st deadline, will that be a doable timeframe (assuming I get a place, of course!)??

I asked the same question at the college itself, but nobody seemed to be able to help :dead:

From my understanding if you have your applications in, hesi & pre-reqs done by May 31st deadline, you would be starting nursing school in Spring 2018 & I do believe you'd start with Ottawa in Fall '17. Set up an appointment with a nursing advisor if you haven't already & attend a nursing program orientation they go over all the CEP stuff in detail, of they don't have an orientation scheduled they will soon, keep a look out for them. Good luck!

January seemed like the longest month ever, as I sit here waiting for notification. I'm hoping they start sending notifications soon, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck ladies/gents.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply! I'm finishing up my final 3 prerequisites and plan to take the hesi test in the next week or so. When I told the nursing advisor that I planned to take the hesi soon, so that I still had at least one (if not 2) more chances to take it in the event I failed, she seemed non-too-pleased with my idea!! However, I figured I have until May 31st to get my application in, and that allows enough time for the 60 day wait period between taking the hesi if I needed to re-sit, so why not??? Hopefully I'll be satisfied with my scores after the first try, of course.

Anyway, she seemed to imply that they may be changing that rule (don't know if that was to scare me, or if it's true) to prevent people (such as myself) from multiple attempts, and as such viewing their first attempt as a kind of "just getting a feel for it". Personally, if they are going to frown upon trying more than once, then I don't understand why they offer that as an option!!

I also need to get the fingerprint clearance done soon because I heard it can take quite a while! Imagine the frustration of having all your classes done, a reasonable GPA, passing hesi scores, and then being unable to apply because of the fingerprint clearance!!! It doesn't bare thinking about!!! :woot:

Not all advisors are equal. You are given points for GPA, HESI, and w/e other factors they look into. The most points you can get if I recall correctly is either 4 or 5. I was 1% away from reaching the full value for the HESI when I took it in July. The advisor said I should take it again considering I was so close to reaching the full value. She said that given my current score I was a high candidate, however, she did mention there is a lot of competition this semester.

On another note, I received an email from Ottawa University. The email essentially states thank you for your interest in our program and both schools are going over applications. Encouraging to know that they didn't waste any time in sending out applications to the universities. There are probably hundreds of applications to go through, so I am not expecting anything for at least 3 weeks or so. Anything earlier would be a bonus.

When you say 1% off for the Hesi score, do you mean you scored 99% or that you got 0.5 points rather than 1 towards your point total?

When did you submit your application? Presumably you're waiting to hear about summer/fall entry, correct? Best of luck!!!!

Sorry, I may have been confusing when I answered. They ranged the % of your score on HESI with a point value. 95%+=5 points, 90-94=4 points, etc. etc.

I was 1% below the 5 point value. The percentages above are based on memory from July when it was explained to me and may not be accurate. But when the select candidates, they go by a point system. GPAs such as 4.0 = 5 points, 3.75 = 4, etc. etc. So if you get 10 points, you are a very high candidate. Again, the GPA values above are made up, I don't know the actual scale they use and what other factors they include towards points. I believe there is a post around this board with more detailed information.

To answer your last question, yes I submitted in December awaiting Summer/Fall entry.

Oh my, it looks like I am also that one point away and that's nerve wrecking! I'm just praying that all goes well! I was told they also give points for degrees as well. I chose ASU as my first and Ottowa as my second choice. I cannot stop refreshing my email haha, I just want to know already even though I only just submitted it on the 31st. Classic over thinker right here. Good luck to all of you and best wishes for everyone!

So I realize I'm a semester behind you guys, but hoping you have some ideas! I'm planning on taking the HESI soon, which will give me enough time to re-sit (if needed) before the May 31st deadline. Taking my final 3 classes (which finish end of April). Fingerprint clearance is done. So - everything seems to be on track I think!

So - couple of questions. How long after the deadline do you guys expect to hear something?

Secondly - I am trying to apply for scholarships, but so many of them want you to be enrolled / accepted into the program to be eligible. That seems fair enough, but obviously it eliminates people in my position because even though I will be applying and hope to get a place, I doubt I'll find anything out before the end of June at the earliest, and even then - do you find out whether you get a place at the University at that time too?

What have you guys done regarding scholarships?? Anyone else applying??

Thanks!
