Maricopa CEP

Published

I talked to the Grand Canyon Advisor at Glendale Community, he told me that my scores are good and should apply. When I talked to the Glendale Community advisor they told me they do not accept plus or minus grades which lowered my GPA immensely. I'm trying not to get discouraged but as it stands right now my GPA for GCU is 3.28 and Maricopa sees it as a 2.88. I took the HESI exam and received an 88% Eng and 94% Math, which I am retaking to raise my Eng score. Even with that, my Maricopa score will only reach 79/80. My question is how do the two schools communicate on something like this? Also, I am active duty military, I heard that they usually hold seats for the military, does anyone know if this is true?

DID ANYONE APPLY LAST ROUND AND "NOT" GET IN???? WHAT WAS YOUR SCORE AND WHERE DID YOU APPLY THAT YOU GOT REJECTED FROM??

Hi,

I'm new to AZ and have applied to the GCC/GCU CEP program for the MSN. Just wondering, is GCU a reputable school. I have no clue. It seems like it is, but I've been reading some mixed reviews on the school. Thanks!

Also, does anybody know what the new grad employment rate is? Do new grads from the Maricopa CEP have problems finding a job afterward? I have no medical experience and would not have any experience to list on my resume so I'd need to have a good educational background I guess to be hire-able. Thanks!

GCU is a reputable school yes, but it has had some hiccups along the way. However, it seems to have overcome these and is on a roll. As far as I am aware the MSN with them is highly thought of. I had several classmates taking it and did well with them.

As for jobs - it's somewhat hit and miss. There are at least 800-1000 new grads entering the market every 6 months in the Phoenix Valley. Some have jobs lined up before they graduate and others struggle for months. It often boils down to knowing someone in the business, making very strong connections when you do clinicals, or just timing. In addition, it depends on what specialty you want or where you're willing to work.

I just have a quick question regarding the GPA. Is it only the gpa of classes they required or is it a total GPA of every class you’ve taken ? I’m a little confused. I have a good total GPA, but with just the few prereqs, it drops mine a little :(

I have 83 Points. My GCU rep told me people got in last semester with 81 and 82 points and said my points are competitive for this go round. Good luck everyone.

I applied to GCU: MCC SSC PCC GCC Chandler Gilbert CC

The GPA for the CC is taken from specific classes, NOT from every class you've taken. For example, I had a previous AA degree, with a certain GPA. However, they didn't use that GPA, they pull the specific classes and work out a "new" GPA just from those classes. Same applies to your University if you're doing the CEP route, but they may have additional classes over and above those required from the CC to add to make a GPA.

How did you get to choose so many school options? I thought you can only do 3 for CEP but as many as you want for traditional.

I advise trying to volunteer at some hospitals as well while you wait if you have time. I work in hospital and they love to hire CNAs within who go to school or they will seek out volunteers as well. I know you don't need either one of these but I believe if you have time why not better your chances later on and see a little more into the hospital if that is somewhere you want to work I believe nursing homes have volunteers too. Good luck sounds like you will do great!

My apology you’re correct. I was looking my traditional app but I narrowed it down to MCC, GC. And SCC. Thanks for the clarification.

Oh it's ok I was just curious if I messed up and could have put down more choices myself ? your chances are still great all the schools listed have a high number of CEP seats I applied to mcc, scc, and Chandler Gilbert. Good luck to you and hope you get into where you want! Just 1 more week before letters should start going out.

Awesome!!! Is MCC your first choice?
