hi

Facts to remember in eye/ear....

EYE

  • To test visual acuity, the nurse should ask the patient to cover each eye, both right and left separately and read the eye chart with glasses and without, as appropriate.
  • If eye ointment and eyedrops must be instilled in the same eye, the eyedrops should be instilled first....then the ointment also ointment from inner canthus to outer
  • During assessment of distance vision, the patient should stand 20" from the chart.
  • A result of 20/50 is what a patient can read at 20 feet a healthy eye can read at 50.
  • Cane for the blind is straight and white color with red tip.
  • Use a normal tone when speaking to a blind patient.
  • Use clock placement of foods on the meal tray .

  • Ptosis refers to eyelid drooping

Ear

  • Wax in the ear should be gently flushed out by irrigation with warm saline solution/insects are killed using mineral oil or diluted alcohol then removed...but first try flashing a torch into ear..
  • If a patient complains that his hearing aid is “not working,” the nurse should check the switch first to see if it’s turned on and then check the batteries

Hi I am new to this group and I am taking a test in the last week of March. I am so nervous about this test as this is not my first time taking it. Last time, I think, my medication knowledge got me down. Do anyone know any strategy on how to remember all the meds? Thanks!

Hi Just wondering if there is anyone planning to take NCLEX in March and may want to meet for a review together. I live in Forest Hills in Queens, New York. We can meet in a library or barnes and nobles anywhere in the city or in queens. Thanks!
