Hi
I'm in my third week of A&PI. It sure is alot of hard work and many hours redoing my notes & making note cards. We have a quiz every Tuesday, so I get that out of the way just to prepare for the next one. I study everyday of the week for a few hours. Is this the same for everyone out there? My Algebra teacher had told us to expect 2 hours outside of class for every hour in class. What's the amount expected outside of class for A&P? I'm sure It'll be different for everyone, but is there a certain average that they say you should be doing?

I spent most of the day studying for A&P 1, but my kiddos were in school & I didn't work.
I *KNEW* I *HAD* to make an *A*! If I didn't, there would be NO way for me to get accepted into the program where I applied. The last two semesters had a cut off GPA of 3.77.
I probably didn't need to study as much, but I had to make sure I made an A. I ended up passing with 101%. I did take on a 6-week accelerated Developmental Psychology course during the last 6 weeks while I was taking A&P, and my mom had surgery during that time as well. So, I didn't set the curve on my last lecture & last lab practical, but still passed with a 101%. (...And my instructor was the hardest A&P instructor at my school...from what we learned from students that had him, failed, and then retook the class with other instructors.)
A&P isn't really "hard", but it does require A LOT of study time, and determination!
Good luck to you!!!

I took A&P I and II in the summer and I studied all of the time. It was a 5 week course and we had tests all of the time. 8 total and when I wasn't cooking or helping the kids with stuff, I was studying. With A&P you have to study a lot and all of that studying paid off in the end for me! :) Good luck!!

I study everyday. The teacher told us to expect to spend 3hrs studying for every 1hr spent in class. Seems that I spend more time on lab than lecture.

I have a lecture exam in anatomy (all essay form). I will start studying today... off and on for a few hours. I will study a good chunk tomorrow, the rest spent studying for another class and most of the day Tuesday and last min study before my test at noon on Wednesday. When I was in physio and chem I did the same thing, I ate, drank and breathed the stuff :chuckle I got an A in both and an getting an A in anatomy so far.

I study for two hours on MWF, before my soc class starts, and I study usually an hour every night while I'm at work if we have downtime. That doesn't always happen though! And on weekends, I try and sneak in as much study time as I can, usually though while I'm at work, since it doesn't work so well for me to study at home - too many distractions. So far I have a 104%, so it's working well for me. I would say I spend 3-4 hours studying for every hour spent in class. It sounds like a lot, but I just sneak in a quick review whenever I can. I find images online for tissue specimens and make notecards - picture on one side, name of tissue, where it's found in the body, what kind of cells make it up, what its function is, etc. I look at those whenever I can. I also bought a set of flashcards for the body systems (skeletal, muscular, lymphatic, cardovascular, etc.). I haven't used them yet though, since we are still in tissues and the integumentary system, which don't have flashcards in the set I bought - so I make my own. It's time consuming, but I figure that the time I take making them is time that I'm learning about the tissues, so I'm studying as I go. Actually, by the time I have them made, I usually know them pretty well - I just revew every day or every other day, when I get a few minutes to flip through them. I work as a clinical assistant, so when I'm dressing a wound or assisting with suturing, I recite the layers of tissues in the skin in my head. I try to relate everything I learn in class to some practical aspect of my job so it sticks better.

I took A&P Iand II this past summer. So I was in class Mon-THur 6p-10p for 10 weeks. I wouldnt say I didnt study but I barely studied. I got an A in I and a B in II. I guess since I was in class basically all week everything was fresh in my mind. It was like get taught a chapter or two each class with a test every Monday. On Sat and Sun I would look over my notes. For a few test I rewrote my notes and made flashcards but after that I never looked at the notes/cards again!! Does that count as studying? :wink2:
Good luck

I study almost everyday. there are days that I don't do anything else but study. I was sure in the beginning that I wouldn't be able to learn so much information, but now I am very pleased how much I have learned and I have done allright in my classes. I have 37/40 score on a quiz so far and I think I got 6 wrong (due to two sloppy mistakes) on our lecture exam.
