how many of you going to start the nursing program in fall 2002?

I will hopefully be starting the program in Fall 2002. I'm applying as a late applicant in July, after I've finished Micro in the 1st summer term. I still have a pre-req that I am taking this semester and by the time I start in the Fall, I will only have one support class (Growth and Development) left to take.

My name is Rhona. In the past year I have taken very few courses,so I will be doing most of it during my nursing school studies. I am looking forward to the challenge. I have tried to fit in some college courses.I began working full time as a PCT at a local hospital for experience. I have since gone part-time to get ready for two classes that I have to take in order to be accepted. I am going to take into to chemistry and algebra 1. I got my GED last year. I had a pretty wild childhood, married and focused on raising my kids. Now they are 11 and 8 and I am ready to find my own way in the world.Good luck to all of us!

I hope to be starting the nursing program in Fall 2002. If all goes well, I should be completing my prerequisites on Thursday, and then I'll be able to take the test which will give me a place on the waiting list. If I have to wait another semester to start clinicals, I'll just take some more support clases. :)

After a couple of years knocking out pre-req, I will be applying for admission to the ADN program for the fall of 2002...

I am anxious and nervous about starting but this is what I have been working for none the less.

I too hope to enter the program Fall of 02. I officially apply to the program at the end of this semester. I am currently taking A&P II and microbiology so those prerequisites will be out of the way. Am very nervous about chemistry next semester. Am trying to have as high an average as possible. If I don't make the cut I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm 50 and don't want to have to wait another year to enter nursing. It would be nice to be working as a nurse for a few years before I have to enter a nursing home!

There's no need to worry about chemistry. If you

did A&P I which is a hard course you'll do beautifully in chemistry. Best of luck to all of you

Good Morning,

This semester I'm taking 17 credit hours of pre-req's and this summer microbiology and I will be FINISHED with everything except clinicals.. yahoo.

I'm wonder how soon you all need to apply to the program in your areas.

I have two programs I'm considering. One is very competitive but it's only a 4 semester RN program.

The other is a Catholic College and their RN program is 5 semesters and it's farther away but they have assured me that I will be in.

Everything I have taken will transfer to either school equally. Although one program requires students to take the ACT test with a score of 20 or higher, the other will waive that if you have more than X number of transfer credits and X GPA.

It is a good idea to apply to more than 1 school? I'm just curious.

Hopefully, I will be starting nursing classes in Fall 2002. I'm taking 3 prerequisite courses this semester and Chemistry in the Summer. In the meantime, I'm starting CNA on the job training at a local nursing/assisted living facility January 21st. Training will be 4 weeks and then, if I pass the course and get certified, will work at this facility while I go to school. I asked for the 3-11 shift. Pay isn't great but I want to work in a similar environment as I will be as a nurse.

Don't feel bad - I'm 51. I worked in the office world all my life and just don't want to go back to that anymore. I'm not married and have no children. And I want to get in a field where there is a less chance of layoffs. Even though I hear complaints of low pay in nursing, for me it's a sight better than what the office world is offering me (with over 20 years of experience, to boot!). I have to think of my finances and supporting myself with no help from a husband or children in my old age.

Good Luck Jan:) Although I haven't heard too much about low pay in nursing, quite the opposite!

Age doesn't matter does it!! Go for it.

How far are you in a program? Are you still working.

I'm still in prereqs. Taking Biology this semester on Saturday (start 1/19). And 2 internet classes, Algebra and Intro to Computers.

Will be working at an Assisted Living facility starting 1/21. I haven't worked for a year. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with my last job (in the office) and was let go last January. Combined with going through a divorce and having to move from one state to my hometown because of my Dad's stroke and having to take care of all his finances etc and moving him to assisted living, I was close to a nervous breakdown. My doctor told me not to work for a while. Fortunately, Dad was able to keep me fed and I'm living in the house I grew up in so I don't have rent to hassle with. He's had alot of medical work done this past year and I've been taking him to doctors, hospitals, dentists and oral surgeons during this time off, so it worked out.

I think being in such close proximity to the health care world over the past year inspired me to look into nursing. I took a class in the summer and for my research paper I explored the 5 jobs that will have the greatest increase in personnel through 2008. Nursing was second. That sealed it for me. I wanted to go into something where I was needed, where I wouldn't have to worry about layoffs from one week to the next, where I could earn a good living to support myself and work till my retirement years.
