I used to work as a secretary. Every year at Secretary's Day, we got flowers or the boss would take us out to lunch, and we were expected to grovel with gratitude because they remembered us that week. Behind the clenched smile, my mind was running - screw the flowers and lunches, give me a decent salary. The real beneficiaries of these kinds of remembrance weeks are the florists and restaurants. By the way, at my facility, we are getting a T-shirt. Again, I am thinking, screw the T-shirt, give me a decent salary.
