Manitoba Nurses

World Canada

Published

Hi! I'm just new here so please pardon my ignorance.. I just graduated last april and passed the board june of the same here. I'm a registered nurse here in the Philippines and been committed as a volunteer nurse for 3 months now since all the hospitals stopped hiring nurses for selfish reasons if I may say. I have a pending application as a provincial nominee in Manitoba and I intend to challenge their CRNM exam but I'm a bit confused wether I'm qualified if a) I still don't have a paid hospital experience, b) I'm a second courser and I just finished my nursing degree for 2 years (trimester). I already visited the CRNM website but I couldn't find answers to my concerns. Please explain to me the things that I have to do to enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

thanks for your reply janfrn :)

hi i'm also an IEN from the Philippines i graduated last April 2008 and i already had 2 years experience as an ICU nurse and in medical surgical area. I also obtained my licensed in state of Vermont last 2009.I'm working now in Makati as utilization management reviewer basically its like call center job but they require US license nurses. I found out that i need to have proof immigration in Canada before i can send my application but there's no problem with that cause i'm going to apply for my PR as family sponsorship by my Fiance next year probably February or march 2011. .

My 1st question is if i'm going to apply next year as IEN in CRNM do i still need to take the IELTS exam again? I took my IELTS last July 2009 and it will expire July 2011.

2nd can i also put my current work in the form "request of verification of practice hours" even if its not bed side care?

3rd is there any IEN from the Philippines who took the CCA also known as SEC assessment n Manitoba can you give us some feedback about the said assessment?

4th Do you think that its better for me to apply as LPN first before doing the RN application? cause i also consider it if in case my RN application will take too long.

5 thIs there anyone from FEU manila?

Hi chengzz 1110!

I am also planning to apply in Manitoba since I already got hold my PR visa last month. Is the SEC assessment new to them? Based from what I've read before they are one of the most lenient in giving eligibility to take the CRNE, though am not sure if there are changes now. Have you heard of a Filipino applicant who was told to take the "CCA"? I am just curious. Are you with Medicall? I am also considering applying there since I am Illinois licensed. I was Oct 2006 graduate but was licensed locally only last February 2010. My concern now is will I be given an eligibility even if I have zero nursing experience. I hope that people who have applied in Manitoba can share their experiences. Thank you.

Manitoba calls their assessment the CCA rather than SEC but they're the same thing. It's not new, has been in place for about 2 years. They used to be quite lenient but having been burnt in 2001 by a significant number of IENs using Manitoba as a stepping stone to the US, they've tightened up their program considerably. You may be successful with the CCA and be eligible to write the CRNE in Manitoba, but your lack of experience and the lengthy period between graduating and registering at home will hold you back in finding a job. Employers are not desperate to fill positions right now and are bing much more selective than they were a year ago. Be prepared for some difficulty.

Hi!

Any updates from those who had applied in Manitoba? What are the chances of Filipino nurses being advised to undergo CCA? Anyone?

Hoping you could share your experiences and insights since there are not so many threads you could read about application with CRNM. Thank you.

Hello Lillylily,

As an IEN and intend to work in Manitoba, I also applied for registration in CRNM and it took 2 months processing,( my requirements were sent thru courier which is faster).I am also a second courser, and I did not encounter any problem..remember they base their assessment thru your transcripts, so it is case to case basis.

Two of the requirements are verification of practice hours and documentation of registered nursing experience and practice.

check this site: http://www.crnm.mb.ca/applicants-international-requirements.php

What i know is that it should be a paid experience. but it is no harm asking and trying ,so try to vist their website:

http://www.crnm.mb.ca/

at the lower left of the webiste, there is a box with a picture of pretty lady, you can actually talk to them online (chat) ,11pm to past midnight Philippine time.. if you have further inquiries, the staff are very helpful.

Goodluck,

Hello again.

I just learned today that College of Licensed Practical Nurse of Manitoba changed their IELTS requirements since February 07, 2011.

Here:

OBS = 7.5

Listening = 8.0

Reading = 7.0

Writing = 7.5

Speaking = 7.5

I was fine with Writing and Speaking before but today, after I learned the modification. I am not continuing my application. Sad.
