Mandatory Flu shots

Nurses COVID

Published

sooooo...what are your thoughts of mandatory Flu shots for health care workers? we got the ultimatum....get the shot or get the ax. So I got my first ever flu shot yesterday. just sitting arround waiting to get sick now!!!!!

I work in NYS, I just received a note with my check last week (I work for a staffing agency) that told me if I didnt get the shot by 11/30 that I would be terminated as of 12/1. Even though the facitlity they send me to is giving everyone the choice of whether or not to take it. If they decide not to they just have to sign a form stating they dont want to take it. I think its crap to force people to do something. Like someone else said not everyone responds to everything the same way and with the short trial I dont trust it.

I had to get a tetorifice shot before class before class began last year. I guess the nurse hit a nerve or something and I couldnt lift my arm higher than my shoulder for a while. Full ROM didnt return to that arm until 3 1/2 months later. I know its not the same, but I dont want to get something if its not absolutely necessary. I'm an asthmatic ex smoker but I never worry about the flu. Ive had it once in high school and once a few years ago when it was going around really bad. I was working as a receptionist so I was pretty exposed at the time.

I think it is very much downplayed and underreported the after effects of a vaccine.

I never got a flu vaccine that I didn't feel like I was run over by a train for days afterwards.

Being unable to lift my arm for a week was just the least of it.

MAJOR body aches, headaches unresponsive to Tylenol or Aleve, plus fatique.

It FELT like I had the flu only of a shorter duration.

I love it whe people say "just take a little Tylenol, you'll be O.K."

The body being injected with a deadened virus is bound to cause a multisystem reaction in the body.

For people who say that they got sick after they received a flu vaccine; I believe you. I wonder if causing your immune system to react to a vaccine, lowers the immune system's ability (temporarily) to fight off other viruses?

Really, if hospitals are going to require vaccines, could they at least give you a few paid days off to recover?

Anecdotal--but hear me out.

My husband and I have been together for 19 years. He has never taken or needed a sick day in all that time. He seriously has the best immune system of ANYONE I have ever known. I have told him that I think that someone should be studying his immune system to figure out why it is so good. There have been times when everyone else in the house had strep and never got sick. He also frequently travels on airplanes and stays well. The last time he was sick was in the third grade after he spent the day helping clean out a chicken house at a friend's house. For the first time ever, last year he received a flu shot. He did not miss work, but he felt terrible for days and then soon after needed antibiotics for a URI. You will never be able to convince HIM to get another flu vaccine again. Why? Because to him, his immune system works just fine on its own.

Peeing in a cup is fundamentally different from letting someone inject some thing into your body. As for PPD, I"m not crazy about getting a PPD every 6 months. However, I understand that TB is a very dangerous illness, which is easily spread and requires long-term significant medical treatment. Further, the PPD has been used for a long time and is well-researched. As for the H1N1 vaccine, I would love to see these peer-reviewed, scientific studies.

LIVE virus was released in a shipment of flu vaccine???"

Yes, it was. Yes indeed. And not just ANY virus...what Baxter's cocktail contained was LIVE H5N1 virus, the bird flu. Supposedly has a 60% kill rate, and is a level 3 biosafety agent. Nice, huh? I'll leave it to the readers to figure out how this 'accidently' got into the manufactured vaccine, but, the fact is, that it DID. And was shipped. Now this same company is one of the ones making swine flu vaccine, and released from any legal liability in the event something goes wrong...Ok, what's WRONG with this picture?

Baxter is not one of the 5 companies licensed to make flu vaccine for the US market.

The five companies are: MedImmune, Novartis AG, Sanofi-Aventis SA, GlaxoSmithKline PLC and CSL Ltd.

This incident occurred in Europe. They have to deal with Baxter, but we do not.

I will say this again, you are taking my sheep analogy to the extreme. It is ridiculous. Your examples have nothing to do with this particular issue and don't make for a good argument as it relates to this flu controversy.

It takes courage for those of us who continue to stand up for what we believe is right in spite of the social and peer pressure to get vaccinated. It's always easier to cave in and go along with the flow. Nobody chooses to swim upstream except if it means they will survive. The problem with society now is everyone wants to be right, don't they? Nobody wants to step back and really hear what the other has to say. The situation happening now arose from one side forcing their agenda on the other despite valid questions of concern and protest. It takes more courage to go against the grain, go against your employer and stray away from the pack. We do because conviction is always a good motivator. Those who want to be vaccinated, choose that path, it's your destiny. If you get your vaccine, be happy as you are doing what you feel is best for you health. Why some of you can't, even for a moment, say the same for the rest of us? We choose what we believe is best for our health and that should be respected.

The sheep analogy was not mine. Just showing how pathetic are the arguments against flu vaccine. You oppose annual flu vaccination, because you are unable or unwilling to do the research. Oh, just to catch you up, the earth is not flat.

LOL! :yeah::yeah::yeah:

So, I won't fall off the edge?

The vaccines in question should be intended for an individual's protection against a particular strain of the flu, if that is what they believe to be true by their research. My research tells me otherwise. For my health, I believe the risks outweigh the benefits. The problem with those being for a mandate is the truth about the intention of the vaccine is getting warped. Instead of promoting it vehemently to those who believe it is a personal protection, it is being forced on those who believe otherwise. Then it is being forced by media and corporations and drug companies by fear mongering. Eluding to the 'unvaccinated' as the vectors is part of the propaganda. That part of the argument gets to the scare tactics and further outrages logical thinking people. My body is my temple, not your temple. If you want to enforce the vaccine, do so with those who want it based on their own personal health decision. According to the arguments now, it is the unvaccinated as the root source of all the illness. This is insane. The viruses have been here as long as the cockroach. Trust me, when humankind is gone, the bacteria and viruses will probably be the sole inhabitants of this planet. Another dangerous turn is we are at the begining of turning neighbor against neighbor by fear. We the people should expend our energy in fighting the budding tyranny. We need to look beyond this and ask ourselves what forcing a vaccine really means in the long run as it pertains to our founding fathers vision for this country. You have to entertain slippery slope arguments to see the forest beyond the trees. Look at the bigger picture and stop turning on your fellow man, your fellow nurse.

I do not really agree with forcing it on people at this point, but i also think people make way too big a deal about it. They aren't injecting you with HIV or Cancer for goodness sake. You face more risk commuting hiome on a Friday evening!

It will not end up with us all wearing uniforms and goos stepping - I promise!:chuckle
