I am a newby here. lol I am starting my clinicals in the Summer. The school I am attending does not offer malpractice insurance to their student nurses. I want to be covered but have no idea how to do this. I looked online and found a company that was Nurses Service Organization (NSO). What I read sounded good, but is it?? lol I looked under student nurses, but I don't have a clue where to start. So I guess my ? is any opinions? Any guidelines at all? Have you heard of this company? I am not sure this is the place for this post, and I apologize if it is not...but any advice you could give me would be wonderful. Their website is http://www.nso.com
If someone could look at it and give me an opinion or anything at this point, I would be most grateful.. I am located in TN. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me on this.
I hope you all have Happy Holidays!

It is my understanding that this is a reputable company and cheap as well! I was also considering insurance from them, tho I am not a student anymore, it's still really cheap, I've heard differing opinions on the topic of purchasing insurance, let's see what everyone has to say, I've not gotten a conclusive answer, tho I'm leaning more towards purchasing it, since I am going to do some travel nursing for a while and wont' feel as protected by my hospital.

I am a student nurse who will be beginning clinicals in L & D, Peds and Geriatrics next term. I recently purchased the malpractice insurance through NSO and did it online with a very quick response. It's only $20 and is endorsed by the NSNA. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I have had NSO for 12 years and have had no problems, of course no reason to contact them either. They seem reputable and they are the only company I found that offers nurses malpractice insurance.

I'm kind of shocked that a nursing program wouldn't offer malpractice insurance...wouldn't they have to be covered as well? I know that the rate of insurance charged to the ADN student is really very little in comparison to what it might cost for a student to get their own.

I have been with NSO for about 14 years. I've never had to use it, but I know I have someone looking out for ME if necessary. The hospitals cover you, but if it's between you and your employer in a lawsuit, you would be on the losing side. Also, if someone asks for nursing help outside of work, and something goes wrong and they sue you.....your employers ins won't help you!
I pay around $80 a year.

I also have NSO insurance and it costs me about $80 annually. I would never practice without malpractice insurance. We live in a society that is lawsuit happy. Someone would sue you for looking at them cross-eyed. My employer doesn't protect my backside now, I know they would never stand by me if I was charged with malpractice. They would drop me like a hot potatoe....Don't enter the clinical area without insurance!!! JMHO...

I always carried insurance when I was working in the field. I got mine from Maginnis and associates.
