Ages of male nursing students?

Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Of the 23 other students comprising the group that I entered nursing school with, three of them are men. The class that is graduating at the end of next week I believe has 1 male student, and as far as I know the class immediately behind mine has 1 as well. This is about 60 students (some classes have had students drop), with 6 of them being males; that's only 1 in 10.

So we know that male nurses are few and far between, but how old are we?

The 1 student in the class graduating next week is 28.

The 1 student in the class that entered the semester after mine is at least 30 (a second career-er I believe).

Of the 4 in my class, 2 are about 45, 1 is 40, and then there is me...21.

How old are you guys? How old when you started school?

Just curious.

I hired new nurses who were all across the age spectrum when I was a nurse manager. I graduated at 28 - been a nurse 10 years now. No worries, you can do it!

I am 17 taking prerequisites. I'll be 18/19 when I enter the program.

me too but i'm a female ;)

did you graduate high school early as well?

Hey guys,

I just finished my 1st semester of RN school, I'm 48 and when I graduate in May 2011 I'll be 50. I can't believe I'm just now starting a 3rd career. I wish I had enough horse sense when I was 20 to have become a Nurse back then, but oh well. It sure is great ain't it?

Specializes in Emergency.

26, grad at 27 this may....hooorah

Specializes in ED.

31 now, expect to be in an accelerated program before I'm 32!

i'm 37 and just graduated this december 2009. yay!!!!! and now for the nclex. lols

Holy cow. All these old geezers are nursing students. Lol jk. I love old people. But I myself am 20 and starting nursing school. I think they have interesting stories to tell bc they have lived longer than me. And are wiser. If any1 is curious, yuong ppl consider 26-30 yrs old and more = OLD, not that there is anything wrong with that. Anyone who is a nurse rocks in general:loveya:

I starting my RN program at the age of 43, but will not get done when I just turned 45. I did have another male student in the class who is in his 50 also and has completed the program this december. I am going part time and will be done in Dec of 2010 if everything goes well.

I feel the same way. I spent 8 years in the military and only got out after I trashed my knee and just couldn't do it anymore. Fell into the second career by mistake while I was trying to go abck to school and the career took over. After 12 years in the freight and logistics trade I looked around and said, "What am I donig here?" I too wish I had the horse sense to go into nursing even 12 years ago. Arrggghhhhhh. Need to stop listening to my head so much.

I am 22 now I started college at 19. I start an ADN RN program in Jan 2010. Somtimes I wish that I started college sooner because I could be working on my masters now instead. But I am still young, willing, and ready to tackle my goals. I am grateful to be where I am at in my life and I enjoy being the only guy ( more attention for me).

19 now, just graduated HS last June.

Pre-nursing still, starting LPN in the spring.

I'll be 19 then too.

Be 20 when I finish school.

I'm seventeen right now. I'm working on pre-req's to transfer over to the local university's lower division nursing program next fall. I found out that due to the community college's wait list, there'd be like a one semester difference between a two year degree and a four year degree. It's pretty much no brainer.

I'll be eighteen when I transfer and twenty one when I finish.
