Ages of male nursing students?

Published

Of the 23 other students comprising the group that I entered nursing school with, three of them are men. The class that is graduating at the end of next week I believe has 1 male student, and as far as I know the class immediately behind mine has 1 as well. This is about 60 students (some classes have had students drop), with 6 of them being males; that's only 1 in 10.

So we know that male nurses are few and far between, but how old are we?

The 1 student in the class graduating next week is 28.

The 1 student in the class that entered the semester after mine is at least 30 (a second career-er I believe).

Of the 4 in my class, 2 are about 45, 1 is 40, and then there is me...21.

How old are you guys? How old when you started school?

Just curious.

In my nursing school, there are 2 male students, I'm 20 years old and the other is 21 years old. Average age would be around 22 years old. No one over 24 years old. We are a very group!

I'm seventeen right now. I'm working on pre-req's to transfer over to the local university's lower division nursing program next fall. I found out that due to the community college's wait list, there'd be like a one semester difference between a two year degree and a four year degree. It's pretty much no brainer.

I'll be eighteen when I transfer and twenty one when I finish.

WoW!

I wish I was that young. I already what I wanted but just got side tracked by so many different careers out there. But now I'm 19 going to be 20 this year, I will be finish by 23 =)

Good luck to you!

Started pre-reqs in Fall 2006 (was 35). Just graduated in December with my ADN. That makes me 38. When I started I was one of three males in a class of 36. One was 25, one was 39, and there was me. The average range for all students was 19 to 45. If you're worried about age being a problem don't. I think it helped me on a maturity level. a lotof the younger students didn't like all the "mcikey mouse" stuff that goes in first year and griped all the time. I just kept telling them "If you want to get through this, you gotta play the game" Most of them couldn't figure out what I meant by that.

Specializes in Rehabilitation.

I'm 27, started doing pre-reqs around age 25. Will be LPN at age 28, RN at 29.

Specializes in Acute Rehab.

This is my second major (did the RT program first and realized it wasn't for me)

I'm 22 and will be 23 when I sit for the RN.

I agree, that is impressive for someone so young and driven.

I was 26yrs old when i started bsn program. 3 year course

I'll be 44 when I graduate in August 2010. I started taking prereq's at the age of 39 very part time because I wasn't sure how I would respond to college. I guess you could say things worked out. :)
