male nursing student uniforms

I went to the scrubs store and found a pair of scrubs with elastic waist, drawstring, button and ZIPPER. This is a big deal for guys.

In all seriousness, though...I want to wear the little cape. Supernurse! :coollook:

I start my first semester in a Week and we were required to purchase White scrub pants, White shoes, and our scrub tops are Navy Blue. Patches of course are required, and a White Lab Coat. Though why the coat is required is beyond me. I am a hot natured person and that's gonna kill me since when I inquired I was told it must be worn at ALL times. I know its for ease of identification and all that but damn.

I can't complain too much though, my partner went through the same program 4 years ago, when the Zip Up Shirt smock thing was required. He became known as "The Ice Cream Man". His class petitioned for reforming the dress code and they got it done. Guess it's better than the alternative.

At the hospital I work at in London the male nurses wear black dress shoes, black socks, navy trousers, a white tunic top that looks like a cross between a chef's and a barbers. In fact this is what all male nurses wear. The only way to distinguish between the different levels of nurse is by the epaulettes (sp?)on the man's shoulders. Students wear a dark blue and white wide pinstripe, Junior and Senior Staff Nurses wear light blue and white thin pinstripe, Junior and Senior Charge Nurses wear solid navy blue, and Matrons (yes, the men are called matrons when they reach that level as there is no other suitable alternative at the moment) wear black with white polkadots (not kidding). Wrist watches are forbidden threrefore all nurses male and female wear pin on fob watches. It sounds ancient I know, but actually it is really kind of effective as you know at a glance who is who. When I was working in Canada it was often very difficult to tell who was who as eveyone including kitchen staff and cleaners all wore scrubs. Sadly no caps or capes. But I have threatened to wear the old matron veil, which looks like a tallship in full sail, should I ever achive that post.

Ditto that!!!
I'm a big guy, too (6'5", 250 lbs) and our uniforms are totally white. Zip front shirt, slacks, sock and shoes. The shirt has a tiny 2" square, yellow and blue emblem/patch high up on one of the shoulders. With all that white, I looked like a snowman.
Really.

I am required to wear the zip up mock thing,white, with the school patch on the left shoulder. I agree it does remind me of an ice cream man, we have matching white(uh) pants, white shoes, white socks and of course white underwear. Oh and on a good day you can wear a hunter green polo shirt but you have to wear a white vest:rotfl: :rotfl: with a patch on the left chest area. I am a stain magnent, I going to have to buy stock in clorox..

I wear white tennis shoes, white cargo scrub pants, and a white zip-up top that reminds me of a barber or pharmacist's jacket, and a fingertip-length white labcoat. All overpriced, with the exception of the shoes ($15 Wal Mart special). One set, including the labcoat, was about $120. After that, I got smart and ordered the same stuff from a website for about $40 for the whole set.

Basically, I look like an orderly.

What really sucks is that the CNA students get to wear ceil blue scrubs, so they look like med students, and we look like CNA's. :chuckle

I was none too pleased when an ink pen busted in my shirt pocket last week. Three treatments of Shout gel, and two treatments with a bleach pen, and I still have a light brown stain.

Traditionally it's all white but differs from school to school. Our's is royal blue scrubs w/ white shoes, not the best but much better than all white. :barf02:

Hi guys, Hope everyone is well. I'm a male also and finishing up my pre-reqs now only 2 more semester to go. What are the uniforms like for males in school? I think a lot of nursing schools require different dress codes but for us guys what do I have to look forward to? The white nurse cap; that's out!! The white stockings; that's out!!!

At my school, all nursing students (male and female) wear purple (school's color) scrub with school's patch on left shoulder and white shoe.

We all look like "giant grapes" or Barney :rotfl:

I guess it depends where you are, but I'm here in NC and we only have to wear a uniform on the day of clinical (Wednesday), which consists of a white shirt, white pants, a white lab coat and white shoes, preferably leather, and every other day of the week we can wear our own clothes- jeans, t-shirts, shorts, etc... It's a relaxed community college, so being in our own attire sets us more at ease, I think.

At our community college, we all wear a Carribean blue scrub top and white pants, shoes, underwear, socks. The top has the school emblem embroidered on the left chest area. At a glance, you can tell our school's students (which is nice). The University students (Arizona State) have maroon scrub tops with the white bottoms.
