This is NOT intended to offend anyone or pass Judgement. If it so does my apologies.I have been doing some work as an NA at our local hospital as part of my class assignment.I did not notice until some of the nurses drew it to my attention that 99% of the male nurses working there are gay.Three were even caught in the act a few weeks ago while on night duty. They have been put on morning shift without any Reprecussions and the staff warned to keep it secret. My question is this could nursing turn men gay? or is it just gay men are turning into nurses?.I have always heard that all male nurses are gay which i know not to be true but i'm a little worried.Where i'm from half the population seems to be gay.Did i miss something or am i now seeing what has been going on for years but is not being freely expressed?

I have been in nursing for 11 years, married and have two grown kids. Never have been gay, don't need to be gay (not that I am against those who are). I have to say that I may be dense, but most of the guys I know in nursing are very much into their wifes and families and are not gay.

I am a male nurse, not gay and happily married for the past 28 years. I have worked with MANY straight male nurses over the years. Matter of fact I have worked with more lesbian female doctors and a few lesbian female nurses than I have gay male nurses. This is one of the problems with stereotyping people based on gender, race, religion, etc.

Yes! nursing WILL turn all men gay. It also will make eyelashes fall out and turn hair purple. So be forewarned, I am just a student nurse and already my hair is looking pretty lavender.

I noticed this the other day, too. A lot of the male nurses I work with are gay. Not all of them, but more than the general population. I thought it was interesting and something to think about, but I'm definately not worried about it.

If some study one day does show that a there's a higher percentage of gay men in the health care industry than any other, then should it really be surprising? If a man is born gay, then his brain is probably more "tuned in" to the feminine part, which also typically houses the nurturing part. It shouldn't be surprising that many of them would be interested in a career in nursing.

My husband is currently in a nursing program and believe me, he's not gay!

I am a male nurse and I am not homosexual but do have several coworkers that are. What are you so worried about? Even if 100% of the male nurses where you work were gay what would there be to worry about?

PS- I dont for one second buy that bs gossip about the two guys getting caught in the act. That is just the myth of all homosexuals are hypersexualized beings..... not buying it at all.

Wow, this is just wow.

There are so many things wrong with your statement. It seems that everything is based off of stereotypes. Just because someone may fit into a stereotype doesn't mean they are. You can be an extremely feminine male and be straight and you can be an extremely masculine male and be gay. The term gay refers to your sexual preference, not your personality.

It really shouldn't matter or worry you who your co-workers go home and crawl into bed with at the end of the day.
