This is NOT intended to offend anyone or pass Judgement. If it so does my apologies.I have been doing some work as an NA at our local hospital as part of my class assignment.I did not notice until some of the nurses drew it to my attention that 99% of the male nurses working there are gay.Three were even caught in the act a few weeks ago while on night duty. They have been put on morning shift without any Reprecussions and the staff warned to keep it secret. My question is this could nursing turn men gay? or is it just gay men are turning into nurses?.I have always heard that all male nurses are gay which i know not to be true but i'm a little worried.Where i'm from half the population seems to be gay.Did i miss something or am i now seeing what has been going on for years but is not being freely expressed?

i am in nursing school now and i can tell you I AM NOT GAY.

OP said, "My question is this could nursing turn men gay? or is it just gay men are turning into nurses?"

No. Nursing cannot turn men gay. No. Gay men are not just "turning into nurses".

 What are you worried about, Tigress?

Oh my gosh, I'm not sure if I even want to respond to this......

Nursing has no effect on one's sexuality, except not having time/energy for any. While there are definitely many gay men in nursing, you will find the same in any field. Perhaps the care-driven nature of nursing is more in line with the personal values of that population. In any case, out of the dozens of men I've gone to NS with, worked with, or met who are nurses, only 1-2 made it known they were gay. I think too many people assume things, simply because men are often seen as outsiders in this caring profession of ours.

If any staff members were "caught in the act" where I work, regardless of sexual preference, they'd be out on the street before they knew it. That kind of unprofessional behavior is not tolerated here.

I don't see how nursing could turn a straight man into a gay one. Why would it? It's common knowledge that there are more women in nursing than men and you'd think the straight ones would be giddy to spend 12 hours with a bunch of good looking women. ;) Nor do I believe that there are more gay men in nursing than say law, retail, etc.

Why are you worried? So what, gay men are still guys. It's not contagious. It's not a disease. Homosexuals are humans and deserve respect like everyone else, IMO. Sorry to say I think you did miss something. There have always been homosexuals. Alot of them hid it especially in the 1940's and 50's where it was expected that you get married and have kids. Now it is more acceptable and people are more comfortable coming out.

But, what do I know. I'm a straight girl. I just hate labels.

Tigress, you have a lot to learn. People do not "turn gay". They either are or aren't. And how did you find out that 99% of the male staff is gay? Did you go around polling them, or did you just ask people if they think that So-and-So is gay? And what are you worried about???? Just by that statement you made your post judgemental. I don't care if a nurse is gay or straight or from Mars, as long as he/she does his/her job.

Sigh....Tigress, are you the same person who thinks her teacher is "just a regular RN"??

I agree that you do have a lot to learn...

I'm sorry but this thread is cracking me up.

or is it just gay men are turning into nurses

If gay men across the country are magically turning into nurses overnight I would say hallelujah, because that kind of phenomenon could really put a dent in the nursing shortage :lol2:

What, exactly did your co-workers "point out?" How do they (or you) know that 99% of the male nurses in your institution are gay? Do they have it tattooed on their foreheads?

Sorry darlin'... but Huh?

No, men choosing nursing as a profession is not going to "turn them gay". Occupations (I'm gonna say minus those in the sex industry) do not have anything to do with one's sexual orientation. NO occupation is going to change one's sexual orientation.

I am going to school to be a nurse because I have a caring nature, I am going to guess that is why most people go into nursing.

Also, only one of 20 or 30 guys that I go to school with is openly gay. The others seem to enjoy being out numbered by the women and being surrounded by a bevy of babes.

I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt and hope you were only being curious and that your post just kind of came out the wrong way.
