Hi all,
Is there anyone here that had to make up hours for USA? I am an RMN and graduated 2000 having done the 18 months general 18 months psychiatric training. I have no idea what hours I may need to make up have submitted to cgfns for my credential evaluation. I know I have my psychiatic hours and lots of clinical hours in maternity and peads but no theory and next to no theory or clinical hours in surgical or medical.
Where did you all do your make up hours? I am planning making my hours up in the usa on a student visa.

you were all lucky to even find out what your transcripts say, mine were treated like goldust, and treated for their eyes only, they were returned from the us 3 times befor ethey were accepted, as the person filling them in had omitted my psych hours and because i couldnt see them or know what was on them , i lost about 6 months in time waiting for them to be sent correctly.

my university was happy to send me a copy of my transcripts but a seperate copy went to cgfns and had to go straight from uni with all sorts of stuff filled in and their stamps

Hi RuthThe hours needed as far as I'm told are as follows
Care of adult-Medical- Practice 70 hours theory 30 hours
Care of adult-Surgical- Practice 70 hours theory 30 hours
Obstetrics-practice 70 hours theory 30 hours
Peads- practice 70 hours theory 30 hours
Psyc- practice 70 hours theory 30 hours
Your transcripts also need to show you have had study in
Community
Physiological & biological
Social sicence
Hours & amount of study not specific.
I made sure I had these hours showing on my UK transcripts & I was granted approval from the Californian state boards & the CGFNS with them.
Hope this helps
You truly would be best off contacting the Board of Nursing where you want to go to make sure you know exactly what they want.
I never even knew you could get a copy I guess I knew I was fine as I did 4 months paeds in my training, I am a midwife and I did a long placement on mental health-so it never passed my mind that I wouldn't be ok.
When I trained with Florence Nightingale we did very easy straight forward placements each year.
You did 8 weeks Med/Surg every year days and nights
Speciality was midders, paeds, ER all 8 week placements.
All our placements were preceeded by 8 days college and followed by 2 days college then Annual leave.
We never had study days in placement block and we worked 37 1/2 hours weeks on the ward and got paid a salary, which wasnt great but you did get enhancements for weekends, nights and hols.
There was no consideration for being a student and you worked hard-you learned your skills from the higher student and there was only ever 2 RNs on duty they did the drugs and you did the rest. There was always 1st 2nd and 3rd year students on duty-and the 3rd years were obeyed. They ran the ward as they had to do management placements.
I couldnt wait to be a Staff Nurse so that I could do no work!!!!!!!!Can you believe that nowerdays
did you know florence well??
Do you know we wore hats, belts, and dresses that looked like J clothes. Our tights had to be flesh coloured and shoes had to be flat black laceups with rubber soles.
I only knew one student in my set who looked good in that rig up.
We always wanted to wear dark brown tights but if we did we were sent home in disgrace to change and return. In the summer if you came to work without tights you were in deep trouble-and no such things as trousers unless you were male.

Wow thats a lot. I had my transcripts approved at the CABON AUG 2004
& the CGFNS approved them April this year.
I guess it depends on the state?
