Macomb Community College Nursing Questions

Published

Can anyone provide details as to how the program works? Any info. at all would be appreciated.

Are each set of classes equal to 1/2 of a regular semester (each class is worth approximately 1.5-2.5 credits)?

I just squeaked in (#158) so most likely I will not be starting until March 2011. I have already completed all of my degree requirements above the nursing classes - any suggestions as to which classes to take to go towards a bachelors degree while I am waiting?

Also, I am very excited and would like to start buying supplies or studying before my start - any suggestions would be appreciated! I can't wait until May 19th!

Is anyone currently in classes at Macomb?

Yeah I don't want to post our names on here, for security reasons.

I know someone who is in their second semester of nursing at macomb. She said that the classes weren't going to change for them, just us newbies. She did hear that we are getting new uniforms though. She also said to enjoy our summer because we are going to be busier than ever. "Just keep up on the homework and reading and you'll do fine," she said.

That's a good idea for the facebook forum! I'm so anxious about orientation..I noticed they changed the class numbers for the courses too..I wonder what that means? Is there really going to be much difference in the classes from previous years? Hmm..well I guess we'll have to wait till May 19th to find out!

I'll just PM everyone that I've been talking to on these threads with my facebook address. It's set to private so you won't see anything more than my name and picture, but at least you will know who I am! See you all Wednesday! :)

Hi Everyone!

It's been a little while since my last post, but I too was accepted into MCC's Nursing Program. Does anyone know if we need to bring anything specific to the orientation on the 19th? Also, is there a list of some sort floating around in regards to the supplies that we'll need? I've seen a lot of comments about stethoscopes, scrubs, shoes, etc. and I was wondering where this information came from. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks! :)

No, there isn't a list, but you can pretty much just expect to need a stethoscope, scrubs and comfortable shoes for nursing school though. They're going to talk to us about it at orientation, since the scrubs are changing, and there are obviously a few more things we will need. I just plan on bringing a pen to write with for orientation... I can't imagine we would need anything else?

Thanks for the reply LauJen! I guess we will just have to wait until Wednesday to have most of our questions answered. By the way, does anyone know which edition of the Saunder's NCLEX book we should buy? I read a few threads stating that this study guide was very helpful to current MCC Nursing students.

I just ordered the Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination [With CDROM (saunders) from Walmart.com. It was the cheapest there.

Thanks Shawnb! Wow, Walmart does carry everything, don't they? I'll go on there and check it out. Is that the newest edition? Thanks again! :)

As far as I know it is the latest edition, however, I heard that they are coming out with a new version this fall. I wanted to get a head start this summer though.
