2011 Macomb Community College HESI and GPA scores for nursing program

Published

I'm trying to get into the Macomb Community College Nursing program. I just took the HESI test and scored a 86.5%. I Also have a 4.0 GPA. What are my chances into getting into the program for 2011, since my HESI is still kind of low?

If anyone can relate please comment. Post scores so we can compare! Thanks for your thoughts:)

I have a question about the hepatitis B vacccine. I recieved my full series of shots when i was little and when i got my titer drawn back in january it said i was non-reactive... So does that mean i need a Hep B booster or do i need to get the whole series given again ? If anyone has any answers it would really help..Thank

That happened to me when I started MCC too. My physician said I only needed the booster. I only had to submit proof of the booster to MCC and I was all good.

Is anyone else having trouble registering for classes on web advisor ? It won't let me do anything....

When is your assigned timeto begin priority registration? Mine was yesterday & my mothers was today at 3 and neither of us had trouble.

i wish you luck, i was a nursing student at Northern Kentucky University, I got the letter that i had too many credits last month and just recieved word that my appeal was denied and i am no longer eligible for federal financial aid....i am trying to enroll in a program that is MN instead of BSN because i have been told that financial aid is different for a master's program....what sucks is that i have more than half the BSN program done but only 10 credit hours will transfer

the physical forms get sent out according to your start date. August have been sent. October gets sent out in september and so on. I have already gotten my physical and start in October, so I went to the nursing office and picked up the forms!!!

I am ordering my books online for the nursing profession class that we have to take and I was wondering if we need all the books that they have listed if not can someone please tell me which ones are needed and which ones arent needed. Thank you!

Rasha : I took the advise of the manager at the center campus book store. I bought all the required books, and a few of the 'recommended' ones. I can always go back and get anything else I need later.

Has anyone else purchased their books?

I am calling the nursing office when they open, but how are we considered less than full time students being in the nursing program? Lets be real. Supposedly I should pay for school, books, living expenses, bills, and since I'm less than 6 credit hours all of my student loans from universities all while working 0-10 hours a week? All while I am busting my butt through this program? She told me to take another class to bump myself up to 6 credit hours, but for some reason since Macomb splits the classes into 8 week sessions, in all actuality it ends up being around 10 credit hours a SEMESTER anyways. The lady in the fin aid office was rude and I am very p'd off with Macomb at this point. With about 120 credits at OU I am not just another dumb kid passing through there except I seem to always get treated like one. Oakland University sends me a start date for their nursing program in February, and I am almost ready to cut my losses at Macomb and wait the extra year or so for OU. If anyone has any input I would appreciate it, thanks

I'm gathering from your post that you start in October or March. Going with that assumption, how can you expect to receive full financial aid benefits for the semester if you are only scheduled to take 4.5 credits? On another note, there are many of us that are no longer eligible for financial aid, me being one of them, due to already having earned more than 150% of the required program credits (that's a FEDERAL regulation)... it sounds to me like you should be one of them also, since you say you already have 120+ credits at OU. I recall it being a required part of the application process to have all academic transcripts sent in to Macomb to have your application considered. I hope they have that on file.

Macomb does not split ALL classes into 8 weeks sessions; in fact, aside from the Nursing and other programs like it, most are 16 weeks. Take a look at the schedule of classes.

I think you should do whatever you think would be best for you. Personally i wouldn't go and switch schools because of a bad experience with one financial aid officer.. I also wouldn't consider spending 2 or 3 times as much on tuition to go to a 4 year university. However, if you decide that OU is what is best for you, I'm sure there's someone on the alternate's list for MCC that would gladly take your spot.

Good luck to you in finding what is right for you.

I have to say that from being a cc student and then a University student there is unfortunately a huge difference. I got treatly horribly at the cc and I don't so much mean the teachers cause I had some good ones but the advisors, f.a. office and so on were rude and useless. Anyhow when I swutched I had shell shock on the difference. People were nice and they actually answered your calls and called you back and were friendly and took care of problems. I don't know why it's like that and I'm sure its not everywhere but I definately felt that way too. If I was you I would go to OU, maybe even meet with an advisor there to see if she could give you an estimate of your start date so you could decide. If you already have so many credits there its silly to not go for your BSN at that point to me. Good Luck on whatever you choose :)

Yes MCC does have weird credit hours for their nursing classes, but the plus side of that is that tuition ends up being much cheaper (which you will need, considering the expenses of books, uniforms, equipment, etc). I was able to defer my student loans from my BA degree and get federal loans for my entire MCC nursing program. I don't know if your situation is different if you start in October or something, and your semester is less than 6 credits. I don't know if I was ever "full time" at MCC because I think it was usually like 11 credits a semester, but I called my loan lenders and they let me defer until graduation with no problem. But come January you will have more credits since you will have two 8 week semesters, so why quit if you will just have one semester that ends up being a little pricey? The MCC nursing program is great (faculty, nursing office, etc), don't let the MCC financial aid office sour you on the school (I had tons of problems with them too, but I stuck it out, graduated and got a great RN job immediately (with much less debt than a second bachelors).
