2011 Macomb Community College HESI and GPA scores for nursing program

Published

I'm trying to get into the Macomb Community College Nursing program. I just took the HESI test and scored a 86.5%. I Also have a 4.0 GPA. What are my chances into getting into the program for 2011, since my HESI is still kind of low?

If anyone can relate please comment. Post scores so we can compare! Thanks for your thoughts:)

Hey guys! I am a January start as well =D I just finished my HSC 1040 in October, and didn't even think of taking other classes for my BSN (would have been a good thing to do). Have you guys done your ACE passport tests yet?

No I haven't done the ACE stuff yet, with three classes, work, and finishing all the other things we have to do before we start. I am waiting until my classes are done on the 16th before I tackle the ACE tests lol. What about you?

I think that is a good idea with your work load! =) No, I haven't taken them yet, but probably will within the next couple weeks, so I'll let you know how they are (read on here they are more or less common sense type deals). Tomorrow I'm finishing up with the last of the list to do with my drug screen and flu shot - all these things really have added up, cost wise!

I started in august, and if I remember correctly, the ACE stuff will only take a couple hours. It's nothing hard, just time consuming! And for anyone who hasn't gotten all the drug test and titer things done yet... I went to my regular doctor (although I do have health insurance) and asked if there was a way if they could bill all of this as part of my annual physical, and they did! Even the drug test. All I had to pay was the co-pay. Also, if you don't have health insurance, vaccinations through the health department are pretty cheap. (Tetorifice shot $8 without health insurance). Good luck everyone!!

Yeah it can add up for sure, I don't have insurance, but I used money i got from financial aid. I think I paid around $350 for all my shots, titers, physical, and drug screen. I did already have a few of the shots, so that saved a little money. I still have to buy my scrubs, steth, and shoes though; I'm expecting that to be another $300 lol.

It will all be woth it in the end!

I better make sure my son is with his grandparents when I do the tests then ;) Yeah, I went to my general doctor, and haven't gotten a bill yet (got everything done in August), so I'm assuming that is what he did, too! How is the program thus far?? With the scrubs, do you know if they care if it is a different brand then the bookstores? =)

Yes, I keep saying that, too! =) I'm hoping these two years fly by! For my 2 pairs of scrubs, stethoscope, and shoes I paid around $250. I'm holding off on the white coat because I heard from another student in the program that they have never used them, so I figured I'd save myself another expense... Life Uniform on Hall Rd or 59, whatever it is, usually sends out coupons for like 15-20% off scrubs, you could probably sign up online or their facebook page!

I would say that your cheapest bet would be to go to see ---- in the nursing lab. She sells used scrubs, I think for around $10 a piece. I bought mine from there. I'm in my first semester and have yet to use my white lab coat. I got all my scrubs for around $50, and it included 2 tops, 2 bottoms, and a lab coat, with the patches sewed on already. The brand doesn't matter as much as the color. It HAS to be the exact color. The program is super awesome so far. I'm really excited for med-surg!

That's great to hear! I am beyond excited to start!! =D

I also was an August start. Definitely save some money and get the used uniforms. You can also purchase a cute badge reel for $5. The funds from your purchase of used uniforms and badge reel goes to the SNA, which I also recommend that all students get involved with.

Michael, whats the good word? I start in January and could not be more stoked! I've been spending this semester taking a chemistry class that would go toward completing my BSN. Has anyone else done any early preparation for that track?

Good for you! I did the same. But make sure you do your research on the limit on the number of classes you can transfer!

I've been looking at transferring to OU, and *if* my understanding is correct, due to the limit on the number of credits we can transfer from a community college, I will still need to earn 11 credits of non-nursing courses at OU to meet the 125 credit requirement for BSN graduation. I have NOT yet spoken with an adviser from OU, so I am not certain about this. I'm not exactly pressed to figure it out soon though. I'm too involved with extra curricular activities to take any extra classes now. :uhoh3:

Have you earned your MACRAO stamp?

Hello Everyone!!! Congrats to all!!! I know this is a little off topic but I wanted to know if anyone could possibly tell me of any good instructors at MCC for Patogenic mircobiology and Human physiological... I would truly appreciate at it. Thanks in advance!!!

--- for A&P is awesome! I didn't care for my patho instructor, so No recommendation there :)
