I'm trying to get into the Macomb Community College Nursing program. I just took the HESI test and scored a 86.5%. I Also have a 4.0 GPA. What are my chances into getting into the program for 2011, since my HESI is still kind of low?
If anyone can relate please comment. Post scores so we can compare! Thanks for your thoughts:)
i am also an august start :)my clinicals are at SJND (st johns detroit?) on wednesdays.
has anyone started with all the drug screening/titers etc?
i turned 26 in feb and got kicked of my moms insurance...so i need to get that goin too. any tips on where to get best rates?
I've done the TB test & titers (all good) and the BLS certification. The titers were free for me because I landed a volunteering gig with patient contact at a local hospital, so they required & paid for my titers & TB test. I had a physical in February or March, so I have to find out whether that is within the required six months or not; if not, then I'll have to get another. Drug screen is on my list of "to be scheduled" for this week. I could also use some advise on what would be cheapest!!
Corazon-I got my first clinical assignment for fundamentals II ( if it stays the same - lol) at MC, do you have any idea what unit this will be? Also, my med-surge will be at St. John Macomb - what was your favorite clinical site?
I had a lot of repeat clinical sites, I was at SJM for maternity and psych. I was at MCRMC for med/surg 1 and med/surg 3/mgmt. I really liked MCRMC, the staff and my instructors were amazing for both of those clinicals. My least favorite was Troy Beaumont.
does anyone know where there is a bls certification class that is going to take place soon? mine cert. expired last year. also, are they going to tell us where to get our drug screening or do we find a place on our own?

i took the first one on the list there. it looks like you could get in as early as 7/14/11 if you register before it fills up. it was $70 when i took it. (fyi i didn't really shop around)
i liked the class, and the instructors were very good.
and i'm pretty sure it's up to us to have a drug screen done, but i thought i heard them saying that they would send us paperwork to have filled out where we choose to go...? anyone else have any input?
I had my titers and drug screening done at St. John's Main, where they have an occupational clinic or something...basically where their employees get their shots/testing done, and it is also open to the public. I want to say the drug screening was only $25, but I remember them running my credit card for 2 hundred something for all the titers, flu vaccine, drug screening and physical...I ended up having to pay more because my MMR titer showed I had no immunity anymore...and I was only 23 at the time. Just goes to show that the titers are important, because the shots apparently dont always last forever!
There is a physical form that you have to get from school, but I want to say that there isn't anything for the drug screening, because wherever you go will just have you fill out a consent form, saying it's okay to share the results with a third party (school).
I had a previous BA when I started the nursing program at MCC. I appealed my denial each year and was approved for aid. (Loans only though, once you have a bachelors you can't get any other type of aid for an associates.)
I got a letter today saying that my appeal was denied for too many credits.... I don't understand!!! Were you approved for federal loans?

Yes after appealing I was offered unsubsidized loans both years of the program. I was just below the maximum amount of student loans they will allow you to take out though.
Macomb has weird restrictions do any of these things apply to you?:

Yeah, thanks for the heads-up Corazon. That does sound really frustrating. I'll bet it will be like Murphy's Law... if I take the extra class, my clinical will change and conflict; if I don't, then nothing will change and I will wish I had taken the class LOL I think I'll take my chances and take the class; "you never know until you try"
