You may want to post this in the Michigan forum. You will get more responses there. Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

Since you're specifically asking about a region, I will move it to the MI forum. Good luck.

I talked with an advisor there last week... I am also applying for the fall 09 program. I have a few classes to take this winter/spring/summer...
You're right it is 50% gpa from your 12 most recent credits and 50% HESI score. Typically there are about 860 applicants and 125 students accepted to the program each year. If you're a numbers person thats about a 14.5% chance of getting accepted. Once you are accepted you will be given a start date (they start in waves every few months). Students with all prereqs completed are given an earlier start date than those who still have some to complete.
I haven't taken the HESI yet but from what I've picked up on the board, as long as you study and work hard you should be ok. Good luck - maybe I'll be seeing you in class next year!

Hello,
I am new to the state of MI, I have been here for a few months and trying get my eggs in a row to complete my RN.
Can you help me out:
I cannot find the deadline schedules for next year at MCC. Does anyone have any dates ? I have 4 classes to complete and then take the Hesi.
Also how many times a year do they accept students?
I'm awaiting for my Nursing packet; haven't received it yet, I tried to find the info on the website with no luck.
MCC looks promising inspite of the admission process, I plan on finishing my prereqs and applying to a few other schools. ADN's and BSN's but I want to make absolutely sure I am taking all the right prereqs which is hard because most schools have different requirements.
Any other school recommendations; I am still learning the area, but MCC is so close to my home.
Thanks

Well, i will be starting the program this march. Yes, they rank you 50/50 on hesi and 12 credit gpa. I would recommend a 4.0 gpa and a 92% or more on hesi, if you dont meet this you may have a very hard time getting in the program. for the 2007 admission we had 1000 students and only 125 got in.
the application process deadline is sometime in jan or feb of every year. I think we must have passed the deadline for 2008. they accept 125 students and have 4 different start per year.
I also recommend taking hard bio class as you 12 credits, and sutudy from that hesi book available at the library. That is what i did.
Hope my info helps.
Congrads on getting in. That is great, how was the hesi for you?
I already have 2 Bios done and chemistry so I am really only stuck with A&P, Micro and nutrition. My A&P is ten years old, I hate that I have retake it. I think I will take a math for a refresher.

The application deadline for 2008 is mid-February but without the Hesi you will have to wait a whole year to apply for 2009.

I got 92.xx% or 93% i don't recall that much as it was over a year ago. I think i am one of the low ranking people so i suggest doing even better on your hesi.
The hesi at MCC is only for math, reading, grammar, and vocab. So get that book at the learning center. Math is very basic like the stuff you did in 1st to 4th grade. reading is simple and grammar can be tricky so read that book for common errors that the book points out. vocab is for words that doctors use not medical terms but just normal vocab that doctors tend to use.
I think you can get all your class ready for next years admission process. Don't bother to take math as it is waste of time and money, you dont need math, if at all you need just review some books.

Hi Jamers,
I am not going to lie, it is difficult to get into the nursing program at Macomb. Every year, over 1600 people apply to get in. This year was no exception. They ranked just over 800 applicants and accepted 120 students. This is the skinny: you are correct that they rank you based upon your GPA in your most recent 12 credits and on your HESI score. Both components are considered equally (50% each). If you want to get into this program, this is what you must do:
1. Make certain that you earn a 4.0 for the last 12 credits you have taken . If you score an A- in a course, that is calculated as a 3.7 towards your GPA. A-'s must be avoided like the plague!
2. Buy the HESI book and study the math and vocabulary portions. You will also be tested on reading comprehension, which you can't study for. You just have to be able to read a paragraph and answer comprehension questions. Don't be fooled into thinking that because the math is basic, that you don't have to study for it. Make certain to brush up on your skills so that they are razor sharp by the morning of the exam. The deadline to sign up for the HESI is sometime in November. Make certain that you don't miss that deadline. If you do, you have to wait an additional year to apply to get into the program. Shoot for the highest score possible. In 2007, the average HESI score was a 94. That is up 4 points from the two previous years. The competition is getting fierce.
3. Make certain that you have all of your prerequisites taken care of. 1) Anatomy and Physiology 2) Pathogenic Microbiology. These are the two most important, but there are some others as well. Make an appointment with a counselor and find out what they are. I would tell you what they are if I knew, but I satisfied those prereqs years ago and am not 100% certain as to what they are. I'm 90% certain that they are Comparative Religions and a PHED course as well as a 3 credit Nutrition course. Make an appointment with a counselor and get a list of all of the courses that you have to take and get a solid A in every course. Take a lot of notes when you meet with your counselor. I've been burned by getting different info from different counselors.
The reason why only 800 out of 1600 applicants get ranked is because most years, half of the people that apply to get into this program do not have their prereq's completed and/or have not taken the HESI.
You must be proactive and, frankly, very competitive. But don't be intimidated. If you do your best, you will make it. Believe in yourself. That is the most important component to succeeding.
Best of luck to you!

Actually, you do not need all of your prereqs complete to get in. They jsut need to be done by the time you start your nursing classes. I don't have them done yet and I am in. Also, yes it is best to have a 4.0 as most people do, but I did not and I got in.

What prereqs do you need for the program? I didn't realise that they only take the last 12 credits for your GPA. That would open up that option for me, as I have been taking classes there since I graduated almost 20 years ago. I am currently at Baker College, but who knows how that is going to go. I need to feel like I am working on another plan just in case.
Thanks!
