LVN who needs IV-therapy class

I'm an LVN in the Dallas-Fort Worth area who needs to find an IV therapy class with the hopes of becoming IV-certified. Any information would be greatly appreciated by me. Thanks in advance if anyone is nice enough to reply.

You can tell your employers you are certified all day but unless you can produce the paper they dont consider it. Every LVN I know has had to go throughthe class.

Our house pharmacy is APS. My job has offered to sponsor me three times within the last few months, but they continue to cancel the class the day before it is scheduled to take place.

Most of my PN graduating class took IV therapy in October and we are now IV certified. I think that many are making a nominal amount more, something like $0.50 per hour, at least the ones I was told about it. I work in pediatrics and Ohio does not allow an LPN to do IV's on patients under 18 so I'm not using it. I am working on my RN so I'll be a step ahead regarding IV's and if I decide to change jobs in the meantime, I figure I'll be more marketable. Good luck in your quests...

None of my current and former places of employment offer higher pay rates to LVNs who possess their IV-therapy certification. We're all paid the same starting pay rate.

try looing in the Nurseweek magazine or their website...like twice a year perioperative nursing offers both iv certification adn picc line certification

i came from houston and took the 2 day course last year it was great.

I attended Grayson County college Vocational nursing program and we had IV therapy as part of our curriculum. We are not "certified" though.

This thread was created almost 1 year ago, so I have an update. I received my IV certification (and 13 CEUs) 2 months ago, by taking the 2 day class offered through APS Pharmacy. My workplace finally sponsored me and paid for the class. I suspect they wanted me to have at least 1 year of employment with them before investing the money into the class.

I'm glad you found a class to take. In our school, we don't have a specific IV class, but we learned out to start them during clinicals on the hospital floor...I had no idea you had to be IV certified..I'll have to ask my instructor if we will be.

If you do not receive an actual paper certificate in IV therapy, you are not IV-certified. Many LVN programs train their students in IV therapy, but you are not considered IV-certified without that piece of paper.
